I'm moreso in shock with how, success or failure, this would have changed the entire course of non-WWE wrestling in the states.

That makes less sense than it being Vince.

I love Daniels... but this would have went over like a lead balloon. Once the Higher power started being mentioned as something other than the devil it was always treated like somebody... Daniels was pretty much unknown at that point. Did he even have the Fallen Angel gimmick back in '99? Yep. He was the Fallen Angel forever, hell in his Light Heavyweight title match against TAKA he was the Fallen Angel.

Russo tried to redo this angle in wcw with Vampiro and Daniels it was dropped after one segment.

Did he even have the Fallen Angel gimmick back in '99? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure he didn't become the Fallen Angel until 2001 or 2002. Which makes this a weird/inaccurate story.

It should have been The Jackyl imo I would've loved that, I'm a huge mark for all things Don Callis. But pretty sure he was gone in like January 1999

I always thought it was going to be the Million Dollar Man due to Ted being the one that brought him in. Did he even have the Fallen Angel gimmick back in '99? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure he didn't become the Fallen Angel until 2001 or 2002. Which makes this a weird/inaccurate story. He was as far back as at least 1998. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WH1nJO_T-uo

I don't think it's inaccurate, Prichard is the second behind the scenes dude to make this claim. Ferrara said the same thing last year. Prichard confirmed it in that podcast. Both tell the same story, Russo had it planned to be Daniels but Vince said no before it came to fruition.

Regardless of who it ended up being, the Higher Power reveal was the perfect way to make somebody an instant main event heel.
Instead, they went with the entirely nonsensical VKM reveal.

People would've gone dead silent for that reveal.
I love the dude, but even I would've had no clue who he was back then.
It'd have been dead in the water immediately.

It'd have been dead in the water immediately. So typical Russo booking! Stories like this is why I can't buy Russo's recent claim of having pretty much free run of creative in WWE.

I think you'd be on to something if the Higher Power would have been Curry Man!

I don't think it's about knowing who he was, but rather someone who legit looked sinister and credibly capable of evil. That's fair, but we've been trained as wrestling fans to expect anyone masked to be 'somebody'. He unmasks and no one knows who he is, I don't see him getting the chance to be credible because the silence would have just killed it. I have no doubt he could do it, but the moment that mask comes off and the crowd collectively goes: "Who?" that angle is done.

Fairpoint as well, and that's definitely true nowadays, but do you think that was still the case in '99?

Vince Russo also mentioned it on his podcast before. When they mentioned this on the Bruce Prichard it made me think who would of made perfect sense for the higher power which is Brother Love. Brother Love was Undertaker first manager. Austin first appear on the Brother Love show. He has the same links as the Million Dollar Man but also has religious undertones. I think Brother Love done in the attitude era could of been really amazing.

I never even heard of Daniels until about a year after we got the Higher Power. He appeared on Heat a few times and jobbed to the Lightheavyweights iirc (Kaientai, Too Cool)
