and a monster attacks. Half the bus is killed, and the only ones left are a group of teenagers and a 30+ guy.
The 30+ guy then has the horrific realization that he is the "responsible adult" in this situation. The monster laughs and runs off. Specifically before the guy can say "you forgot to kill me!!!"
I call it "The Adulting". Dun,dun, dun!

Nah, a real scary movie would be if the monster attacked, killed everybody but the 30+ man, and his wife and kids. He then realizes to his horror that he has to live with them...the rest of his life a truely nightmarish ending.

If he has a wife and kids, he already kind of plans to live with them the rest of his life. Plus nowhere near the horror of being forced to become a "responsible adult" against his will.

He means that the monster has to live with the family against its will. Isn't that Harry and the Hendersons? I was thinking Mr Nanny, but Harry works too.

For years I've been wanting to make a slasher movie where halfway through they manage to kill the killer and the rest of the movie shifts to a character drama about the grief and horror of the situation and everything they went through.

I've thought on similar lines before. After watching a good horror/slasher, you can't help but think "that person is never going to be okay."

How about a story where teenagers are trapped in a school and a monster is outside, stalking them. Food resources begin to run short, and they have to decide who lives and who dies. They get into arguments about who is worth more based on intelligence, race, religion, moral virtue, social class etc...and gradually begin to throw students out based on their decisions. Eventually, they come down to a small core group, and even they start turning on each other until only one remains. When his/her food also runs out, they decide to die by leaving the school and letting the monster kill them rather than starving to death. The movie ends with the student going outside and realising there was never a monster. The whole thing was an elaborate social experiment to see how teenagers cope with stress.

I like that idea except the twist at the end is the monster choked and died on the second to the last student.

I can envision after the monster escape.
Teen1:"We have to fix the bus."
30+ guy:"I don't know how fix a bus!"
Teen2:"You're old! don't you own or drive a car?"
30+ guy:"I can drive, but I mostly use public transportation. Why do you think I'm on this bus?"
Teen1:"What if you have to go far?"
30+ guy:"I borrow my brother's car. Which by the way, I don't know how to fix."
Teen3:"What if you have to see your kid?"
30+:"I don't have a kid."
Teen3:"Then why do you have a lego box?"
30+ guy:"Those are mine."
Teen4:"Can i play with them?"
30+ guy:"No, get your own!"
