Some of mine include:
The transition from Clannad to Clannad After Story. CAS's open and end theme are nice, but once you heard the Big Dango Family...
The end themes to Sailor Moon post Moon Princess left me cold.
That season when Growing Pains switched to the acapella theme. (if I knew what I know now, I'd protest about BJ & Dusty going back to BJ & Jennifer too...)
Captain Planet opening gets a RAP theme.
Avengers: EMH theme gets severely cut to include narration.
Any Ab Fab Wheel's on Fire that's not the Season 1-3 version.
Most of the Rhoda themes are decent. But going from the narration S1 open to the "la-la-la" version in S2 = bad. Also, S4 arrangement turns into the talk show/variety show like song from S5.
Wheel of Fortune = when "Changing Keys" adopted the big band style, devolving into the unmemorable fare we got since. Same can be said when Jeopardy! dropped the 80s-90s synthesized version of their theme.
Controversial Picks:
Season 1 Facts of Life theme becomes the theme most of us remember.
Season 1 Mary Tyler Moore Show theme becomes the one most of us remember. Moreso for the Season 7 arrangement.
Wheel of Fortune again..."Spinning Wheels" becomes "Changing Keys".

Might count as a controversial pick but...
I love the MST3K theme during the Joel episodes; it gets me pumpin', the singer sounds energetic etc..
Compared to that, the MST3K theme after the change to Mike sounded lifeless and the singer sang like he was just in for a paycheck.

I'm sort of mixed on the A-Team's fifth season change...has a killer intro, but it sounds like a cat purring the whole time
Doctor Who's Trial of a Time Lord theme, and Matt Smith's final season theme was ghastly.
Pokemon themes peaked after Master Quest and just got worse from there...do they even bother anymore?

I hated when they changed the disclaimer at the beginning of Beavis and Butthead.
The original was:
Beavis and Butthead are not real. They are stupid cartoon people, completely made up by this Texas guy who we hardly even know. Beavis and Butthead are dumb, crude, thoughtless, ugly, sexist, self destructive fools. But for some reason the little wiener heads make us laugh.
They replaced it with this, which had banjo music playing behind it to make it seem goofier:
Beavis and Butthead are not role models. They aren't even human, they're cartoons. Some of the things they do would cause a person to get hurt, expelled, arrested, possibly deported. To put it another way, don't try this at home.

Grange Hill going from the classic "Chicken Man" theme
to this soulless, generic 90s shite.
They tried to slightly update Chicken Man in the late 80s. It wasn't as good as the original but it was miles ahead of the 90s theme.

Flatulence by any sound still smells! But it does remind me...B:TAS to TAoB&R. The latter wasn't bad at all, but not iconic like the original theme. (I also feel the Batman and Robin theme needed the Gregorian chants that Mask of the Phantasm had...) Season 1 Transformers (G1) had a big downgrade with the S2 version. But jumped back when we got the best variation of all, the Season 3/post-movie theme! No one will remember/be insulted as I was with the change, but 17 year old me hated when Hit the Road, Jack replaced the Season 1 Unhappily Ever After theme. Then they plastered the NEW theme/opening over season one episodes!! |

While not the worst, the only one I can think of is the change in music from season 4 onwards of Deep Space Nine.
The newer version was just too busy, and even sped up.

Dino Thunder's was cool too to me. I forgot about Dino Thunder's. That one was pretty good too. I liked the first few episodes of Sailor Moon Crystal. Haven't really caught up on it lately. Although I do see that the English Dub, as well as the new Dub for the Original Sailor Moon, Artemis is voiced by one Johnny Yong Bosch. |
