The dark, brooding friend of the MC switches to the villains' side to gain more power, and even attempts to kill the MC & friends, only to be accepted back through the bare minimum repentance and "learning their lesson." Otherwise known as "The Sasuke". Or, for Beyblade fans, "The Kai." ... And now I want a Team Four Star version of that show. When the master plan of the villains is to conquer the world with spinning tops... yeah. |

I think we are just mentioning ones we've noticed pop up fairly often in more than one specific amine.
My daughter is the type that can just take a GLANCE at something I watch and she asks, "That an A-1 anime?" I say yes, she says, "A-1 are pretty much all the same type of characters. They just switch the heads around."

Otherwise known as "The Sasuke". Always freaking hated that when that happens. If you're going to have a character redeem themselves, actually have them go through an arc, don't just have them turn their back on the bad guys just as quickly as their turned their back on the good guys, thus showing they haven't learned dick, and pretend that it somehow makes up for the countless lives they have either destroyed or ruined. The worst variation is when there isn't even a redemption and it's just kind of the heroes giving the bad guy an opportunity to join them because they see good in him even though we sure as Hell didn't get to see it, usually just because that bad guy was betrayed by the bigger bad guys and him just standing there dumbfounded apparently equals character development. |
