God damn it, I had heard he's survived his cancer scare and the guy was still doing great work all over. That last War Doctor audio play's gonna be heartbreaking to listen to.
Folks, watch him in 1984, Elephant Man, Watership Down, and in I Cladius. The man was a tremendous talent, and gave it everything in no matter what role he had.

Gutted, always liked John Hurt in everything I saw him in. As a massive Doctor Who fan I'll be more inclined to remember him as the War Doctor more than anything, but you'd have to be a diddy not to recognise his roles in Alien, The Elephant Man and Harry Potter.
A legend in the acting business. RIP John Hurt.

I thought he was older. What a hell of a career, very esteemed actor and for good reason.

A wonderful role not mentioned yet was that of Quinten Crisp. He played him perfectly. Very sad news.

Dude has a lot of credits and as usual I like him most for the forgettable stuff like his role in Hellboy.

RIP one of my favourite actors.
Great in everything...
Loved his role in V For Vendetta. Played an awesome evil fascist dictator.

Damn... he had a heck of a career. And 77 years old, for some reason I thought he was older... maybe because he always seemed to be in something, his face popping up somewhere I never expected.
Rest in peace, sir.

Just the fourth actor to portray the Doctor (Who) to die (five if you count Peter Cushing in those non canon movies). The first since Jon Pertwee passed in 1997.
Well all the deceased Doctors actors lived to an old age.. Well the four were already old when they were cast. So I would not say it's a cursed role like Superman .

Well all the deceased Doctors actors lived to an old age.. Well the four were already old when they were cast. So I would not say it's a cursed role like Superman . William Hartnell was 67 when he died but he'd suffered from arteriosclerosis and a sort of vascular dementia type thing. Patrick Troughton was 67 also, and only 46 when cast in the role. He smoked like a chimney though, and kept on smoking even after life saving surgery on his lungs. Heart attack followed. Jon Pertwee was 76, and pretty much jetset around the world until a heart attack saw him off in his sleep. He was great.
