Doing my best not to get political, but are you one of those countries that lets immigrants come and go to school for free? I'll answer it but I won't go into much detail as it's not really the forum for this sort of thing, nor is it the thread and I don't want to derail it further. Yes. But only if it's compulsory education that is provided free of charge anyway, like primary and secondary school education until you're 16. Any further non-compulsory education must be paid for. Now back to the new Doctor talk. Thanks. Anyway,I'm going to second the Dylan Moran suggestion. Aside from that, and also nominate Bill Bailey. Also, as a long shot, I'd love to see what Tom Hiddleston could do with the role.

The current bookies favourite : Olivia Colman Oh hell yeah. I love that woman, she's an amazing actress and can play eccentric characters really well. The next few in order are Reece Shearsmith, Ben Wishaw, Richard Ayaode. Do....do you Brits actually gamble on who is going to be the next Doctor? Dude, we literally started gambling over wrestling, like, 3 years ago. AND we regularly bet on soap storylines. We bet on EVERYTHING.

My dream castings for the Doctor at the moment are Danny John Jules, Paterson Joseph or Ruth Wilson.
So long as they do something other than stay in the exact same 50+ year old mould in a show that's meant to be about change.

OOOOOh, I didn't think of Ruth Wilson. That'd be pretty cool.
I'm basically good for her or Oliva Colman because with the latter, I'd pretty much watch anything she's in ever.

There's a rumour circulating that the BBC are also moving production of the show out of Cardiff and into Manchester. Well that certainly suggests a particular British television personality to play the Doctor. "Zygons, do we need 'em?"

I loved Capaldi's doctor alot, I will miss him alot.
bring on BBC going crazy and deciding to have a beatle play the doctor, Ringo would be welcomed to me.
or...if they wanna do the "i never forget a face" "I know you dont, and perhaps one day you may find yourself revisiting a few, but just the old favorites"
welcome back Paul McGann!

What about this, the Doctor regenerates and there's an aura around him, when the light dims and as we see the Professor's Doctor's new incarnation we welcome Sophie Aldred back to the show

THIS TIME, the spunky twenty-something pretty lady companion from the modern-day UK will be from (somewhere she hasn't been from before)! THROWING A CURVEBALL AT THE WHOLE DANG GENRE!!!

THIS TIME, the spunky twenty-something pretty lady companion from the modern-day UK will be from (somewhere she hasn't been from before)! THROWING A CURVEBALL AT THE WHOLE DANG GENRE!!! Speaking as someone whose favourite companions include Nyssa and Charley - one an alien, one from the Edwardian era - I do agree there are other routes they should try. I was a bit disappointed that Bill was from the present day rather than being from the 80s as the dress sense made people imagine. Would have been a neat twist in that she would have once been the 'contemporary' companion, but now from a different temporal point of view. Though I do still think that there enough twists to the circumstances, outlooks and intersections with their own time that there's still a diversity of stories there. Also, I was curious, and run the numbers. Find it rather interesting that despite the common perception, only about a third of TV companions fit that 'female from contemporary UK' mould! {Spoiler}Fitting the mould: Barbara, Dodo, Polly, Liz, Jo, Sarah, Tegan, Peri, Mel, Ace, Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy, Clara, Bill. (Total: 16)
Not fitting: Susan, Ian, Vicki, Steven, Katarina, Sara, Ben, Jamie, Victoria, Zoe, The Brigadier, Benton, Yates, Harry, Leela, K9, Romana, Adric, Nyssa, Turlough, Kamelion, Grace, Adam, Jack, Mickey, River, Rory, Craig, Nardole. (Total: 29)

Fairly telling that so many of the former come from Nu Who, though.
I always thought it'd be interesting, if even for a little bit to have a Gallifreyan who was not a a Time Lord as a companion. Could make for an fascinating contrast to the Doctor in terms of background and viewpoint.

Given that it's a 7-6 split in favour of the latter, I think it's most telling of the high turnover of companions in the last decade. And yeah, totally down for some Shobogans in the TARDIS. I'm kind of surprised the Extended Universe has never got round to that idea. Could argue that the closest we've got is Clare Higgins' Ohila as a recurring character.
