Honestly, I wish I could say I'd miss him, but the show around him has been really sub-par. A shame, as I was really excited when he took the role.

Honestly, I loved him as the Doctor but I knew this was coming

As much as the production tried to throw around talk of "Well just because its Moffat's last, doesn't mean its Capaldi's", given the history of the show and that roughly three series is the typical rate for most actors playing the Doctor this seemed kind of inevitable. I kind of wish he was getting a chance to interact with a non-Clara companion for more than a single series, but hopefully the show will try and use that time wisely.

I'm happy about this. I'm a huge fan of Capaldi but I don't think I ever got into him as the Doctor (possibly because I associate him too much with Malcolm Tucker). I had really got back into the show when Matt Smith was in it but just not been that interested since.

Wasted talent. They finally got around to writing him like the Doctor last season and completely wasted him in his first. I'd honestly love if they cycled the writers out and got some fresh blood in. Maybe add a bit more fun into the series.

There goes my hope of Craig Ferguson as a companion.

Maybe add a bit more fun into the series. They are. The current regime is on the way out after the next series. My hopes aren't high on the replacement (great first season of Broadchruch aside, I still cannot forgive/forget/erase Chibnall and the absolute u-bend clog that was season 1 of Torchwood), but yeah, change is a-comin'. Feels like they've only established Doctor 12, after his opening run leaned too heavy on the "remember I'm an alien" shtick and they'd to spend the following season dialing back on it.

I liked him, but such is the nature of the show.
Now we get to my dream pick of Dylan Moran as The Doctor.

I liked Capaldi as the Doctor but I felt most of the show around him wasn't really there to support him.

Poor guy, His run has been abysmal so far.
I actually prefer Colin Baker's 2 years in comparison to Capaldi's first 2

Sorry to say I won't miss him, as his Doctor and the writing pushed me to drop the show.

Well, it's a definite shame, especially knowing that the only remaining stories we'll get with him will be featuring Matt Lucas... But if there's one bright side, it's that the countdown to him doing Big Finish begins now.

It's a shame. He had some great moments as the Twelfth Doctor. Really grew on me after a while.
It's not really surprising, though. It seems to me that three years is about average for the Doctor on TV.
Hartnell, Troughton, Smith, and Capaldi were all 3 years. Davison, Collin Baker, and McCoy all had 2 years. Hurt, McGann, and Eccleston all had 1 year.
The top three were Tom Baker (7 years), David Tennant (5 years), and Jon Pertwee (4 years).

I might actually start watching again. Capaldi was awful. I watched the first season he was in and couldn't get through any more.
Has Clara gone yet? She was a key part of me stopping watching too.

I really liked Capaldi in the role, but like it's been said already the show around him hasn't always been brilliant.
I'm curious who the next Doctor will be, knowing my luck it will be David Walliams.

Clara left last year in a spectacularily botched fashion that makes Roman Reigns promotion from Vince look modestly light I'll miss Capaldi, I'm one of few who thought his debut series was excellent and, Maisie Williams, abysmal ratings, and Clara aside, I thought series nine was alright, but I agree that when the writing was off, it was hard to take to him. It was always incredibly clear they had no idea what to do with him when he went from an edgy grandpa to a hipster dad-at-a-wedding in series nine.
