Just about an hour ago we told you that Paramount had pulled this year’s planned Friday the 13th reboot from their release schedule, meaning Jason Voorhees will no longer be returning to the big screen on October 13th. At the time we wrote that, we weren’t sure if filming was still scheduled to begin in mid-March, as planned, but now we’ve learned a bit more about this mess.
From what we’re hearing, production on the new Friday the 13th has been indefinitely shut down, suggesting that there is indeed a death curse attached to our old pal Jason. From what we understand (from the initial story in which rights to Interstellar were swapped for “South Park’s” Cartman and Friday the 13th), Warner Bros./New Line were to get the rights to the franchise back in 2018, so it seems likely that the next Friday the 13th film will not be made by Paramount.
We can only speculate, but this sure seems to have something to do with Rings failing to make big bucks at the box office this past weekend. Though it came in second place overall, the 12-years-later franchise sequel made just $13 million (domestically) on a $25 million budget; considerably less than Paramount likely hoped to make from Samara’s return.
Did they get cold feet and pull the plug on Friday the 13th as a result of Rings‘ performance over the weekend? Given the timing, that seems to be the likely explanation.
Breck Eisner (The Crazies) was to direct the reboot from a script by Aaron Guzikowski.

...My reaction in video above lol.

Looks like Paramount also pulled World War Z 2 from the shedule. Maybe these studios shouldn't set dates until a film is actually shooting. Another reason Rings flopped is the date was moved around like three times, audiences know that's a bad sign. Plus the last Jason reboot was in 2009 and nobody really cared then.
I'm just waiting for New Line to get all the rights to 80s/90s horror icons and make some terrible cinematic universe.

No fair, Universal's already doing that with their classic monsters and Paramount with Transformers.

Aren't they also making a new Halloween movie soon with Carpenter on board? I think the people that are making the Friday the 13th reboot are probably waiting to see if that will be a success.

Really not sure why it's so hard for them to make another Friday the 13th movie. It's not like there's some deep story or intertwining narrative involved; it's a guy in a hockey mask killing horny teenagers. Make it extremely violent with a lot of blood and gore and you've got yourself a success. Oh, and don't make it a vehicle for Jared Padalecki.

I think they should start making these films with annoying celebs as the victims, they could refresh it every couple of years

That is supposed to release this year as well. It's a reboot with input by Carpenter so maybe will work out. That's if people want another Halloween reboot.

I guess we're probaly going to have to settle for WWZ2 and Friday the 13th knockoffs this year.

I'm concerned about the game as well, because I feel like it's going to be seen as a knockoff of Dead by Daylight at this point.

Was this going to be a sequel to the 2009 reboot or another reboot entirely?

Anyone who followed the production on this thing could have seen this a mile away. I definitely did. They moved dates around like crazy. Start dates, release dates, hell multiple Friday the 13th's were to be the day. Script changes were constant. Never had a cast. They recently said they were casting twins for Jason, presumably to shoot more sequences in less time.
They spend too much money on these and never gollow up. They put to much emphasis on deconstruction and not enough on delivering goods. Jasons father was gonna be in this which would have been pointless.
Leatherface has had so many origins and now the latest will have him as a kid.
Get cheap actors, bury them in gallons of blood make your money back in one weekend and pump them out yearly. Its not hard and the formula used to work often.
Also the 2009 movie was great

Looks like Paramount also pulled World War Z 2 from the shedule. WWZ never needed a sequel anyway. They tied up everything that needed to be tied up in the first movie. Unless they intend to do a direct adaptation of the book I don't need another generic zombie movie.

Aren't they also making a new Halloween movie soon with Carpenter on board? Will this one be more true to the spirit of the original series? Watching the Rob Zombie ones I didn't see a single shot of Stonehenge or hear the Silver Shamrock theme once.
