So I and am looking to move out, thinking of studio or 1 bedroom, they seem to go for mostly $800ish. I make about 32k.

don't move to anyplace close to douchey hipster areas. you end up paying a hell of a lot more money for a hell of a lot less space

Check for rot, mice, and flood lines before moving in. Also, consider renter's insurance.

Check for rot, mice, and flood lines before moving in. Also, consider renter's insurance. To that end, also test all the faucets and the hot water. Check online to see what if any reputation your landlord may have.

Renters insurance is cheap and it's better to have it and not need it than not have it and be out all your stuff.
Pack all your stuff before moving day.

You may be moving out, but are you moving on up? Preferably to the east side? You should really try to get a piece of that pie.

Hire movers. My grandfather likes to move, on a whim. One day he'll just sell the house and buy a new one. He's 92. So, you'd think that shit would be pretty much done, but nope.
So, last time he moves, I know for a fact mom has hired movers, she's paying for them. They're old, my parents are olderish, my brother and I work and everyone else is too young too help. Anyway, he calls me and asks him to help move because he knows it's my days off. I say "Sure, want me to grab [my brother's] truck?" Nope. Just a few boxes. So I figure it's easy, he's got a few boxes that a 90 year old man thinks is heavy, doesn't need a truck, this should be a snap.
I get there, like, f***ing nothing is packed. So we moved his house in 756 easy trips in the back of his car. You wouldn't believe the shit you accumulate when you're 90. Grandma did toss out some wool she'd been packing around, she figures her knitting days are over, so no need for it. She figures it came from one of the sheep she had as a girl. She was born like in 19-f***ing-30.
3 10 hour days later. They were moved in. Hire movers. They banged out their end in like 2 hours.

Stock up on non perishable items that you use everyday like soap and toilet paper when they go on sale.

The first time I moved out on my own, I got cocky and thought I could move all my stuff on my own. Boy was I wrong. I'm not at all in shape to be moving a bunch of heavy, bulky shit, so my body felt like it'd been in a car wreck for days after the fact. I don't care how much the movers are charging, trust me, IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY.

If you're checking out places, bring a nightlight. It is the easiest way to check if the outlets work. Especially check the bathroom ones, I swear I have had like one house ever that didn't have a broken bathroom outlet.

Check the local stores.
We nearly got what looked like a great place for cheap with no problems, but it was in a food desert and neither of us has a car.

Sort out your stuff and figure out anything you don't really need before you pack. Me and my girlfriend got rid of lots of stuff before we had a move in date, meaning less to pack later.

Ask the landlord if the building was built on top of a native american burial ground. And they have to tell you the truth, as per the landlord oath they swore to.

THIS I never realized how much stuff I had until I had 5 hours and 2 cars to load all my stuff into during my last move.My lady and I have been planning on moving the the Gulf Coast area for a few years now, would have happened last year but I screwed it up. So I have been slowly downsizing my collections. Right before X-mas I sold to the local comic shop, for store credit, almost 5 longboxes of comics.Sure I didn't get guide value for all of it. But that is 5 less longboxes I will have to move. And the store did give me a decent deal on it. It is also why I have been going thru all my wrestling dvds, grabbing any I haven't watched in 2 years or more. Then bring them to sell at the gimmick table at indy shows. Currently I got right at 200 books I want to get rid of. Sadly about a year ago the nearest used bookstore closed. And I know I could donate all the books to the library. But it would be nice to at least get some cash or store credit out of them. Make sure the night before the move you get plenty of sleep. Try to get some friends/family members to help you out when you move. And label every box with a few words about what is in it. Plus what room it goes in. That helps a bunch when you get to unpacking.

Here's a little protip a lot of people miss: when looking at a new apartment/house, flush every toilet and try every faucet.
taste the water. No, not from the toilet. If you do though I'm not judgin' you

Nobody was preapired and they tried to get away without paying my brother and my cousin.

Take pictures of the place you get on move in date. Photograph every single flaw you find, and record it to make sure they don't blame you to take your deposit out.
Check in all ground level cabinets along the wall, since when I had a mice problem at my old apartment, that's where they were coming from.
At your income level, you should be looking at up to $870 on rent per month, if you can find it.
