Am I alone in having entire genres of games that you just can't get into?
For example, no matter how hard I try, I can't get into most open-world type games. Grand Theft Auto is about as close as I can come. You put something like Assassin's Creed or, most especially, Skyrim my eyes completely glaze over from boredom within minutes.
So, what about you guys?

"Free to play". Yeah, it's free to start, but if you want the game to be any good, you soon have to drop way more money than a traditional console game would cost, even with DLC.

I just don't have the patience for RPG's
and though it is a bit of a cliché answer, most First Person Shooters bore the piss out of me.
Only games I can really get into now a days are Racers and Fighting games.

DC Universe Online is a particularly annoying example as it'll let you get all the way to level 30, but if you want to play anything past the first set of raids, you better be payin' up. And I know MMOs are different because it's an ongoing thing and developers have to pay for server fees and such, but letting you get so far into the game before hitting the paywall seems pretty shady, especially if you don't want to pay and end up just wasting so much time.

FPS. I just find first person perspective in video games to be distracting.

FPS. I just find first person perspective in video games to be distracting. I am not opposed to playing FPS, but I mostly prefer playing third-person action games. As for me, certain sports games. I was never into Madden or MLB, probably because I am not a football or baseball guy. Then again, I am not opposed to playing soccer or hockey games. Same with tennis and volleyball.

So, what about you guys? Open world is really tricky because if you don't have enough stuff to do, it can kill the fun of a game. Probably the worst example I've played with this was Mirror's Edge Catalyst, a game that did not at all need to be open world.

Outside of the original pokemon and a couple GBA games whose names I can't remember, I've never really cared for RPGs

Most vehicle racing games. I've never enjoyed any first-person perspective car/bike/boat racing game. Any game where the whole selling point is that you're driving a particular brand of high-end sports car. I looked up Gran Turismo and Forza after seeing Doctor Doom's post above and, yeah, zzzzzzzzzz.

Any game that's turn-based combat.
Never dug horror games that much either.

Simulation/God games and RTS games. I just have trouble with a game where I make a decision and watch it play out, rather than be in the thick of the action.

First person games because they they give me a headache.
Call of Duty, because I never know who I am, who I'm fighting, or why I'm fighting them. There's also always a cut scene where you complete a mission, and your commander shoots you before you get onto the escape helicopter. He'll tend to say some shit like "sorry son....but someone's gotta be sacrificed/the Department of Military Affairs etc....wants you dead".
Games that offer no strategy, like Dead Island, where you can't even use stealth and sneak to avoid fights. The zombies can see you from a mile away and you have to fight and kill every last one of them. Compare that to The Last of Us where you can generally avoid fights if you are cunning enough.
Driving games like F1, where the cars move like they weigh 20 tons and they turn as quickly as oil tankers.
Games with too many mooks, like Bioshock Infinite, which despite its great story and characters, is just generally a brainless shooter with 1000 enemies on each level attacking in wave after wave.
Soccer games which put way too much emphasis on tricks and not nearly enough on basics. There's a tendency on soccer games now like FIFA and PES to overanimate player moves, to the point where a simple thing like merely turning, requires a half dozen frames of animation, not to mention the players running as though their legs are made of rubber.
Games where you have to build up experience points to raise your health/stamina/power/weapons levels. By the time you've built up enough of them to be really strong, the game is already over.

My picks have been mentioned already, but here we go.
RPGs. I could never get into the whole thing of walking around and talking to people. And I second the comment about turn-based combat; performing only one move at a time just never appealed to me.
Sim driving games. I love arcade racers, but having to worry about the car itself and all the minutiae ... no thanks.
Sports games. I could count on one hand the number of sports titles I have played since my family got the NES way back when. I just can't get into the strategy of what play to call, substituting players, and so on. And with the modern titles, there's even more to dig into. I hardly follow sports in general, so this genre is lost on me.

I can't find anything fun with this "super-difficult dungeon crawler" kick everyone is on. I have people constantly ask me if I got the new one (Dark/Demon Souls, Nioh, etc.) and then those same people will never say anything else about the game except how they keep dying. They never ever sound like the game is enjoyable or give any high remarks about the game's quality (sound, graphics, controls, etc.). It's always just "Dude, you played [game here]? Dude, it's so f***ing hard. Like, even the first boss, I was stuck for, like, 3 hours on that". Games that offer no strategy, like Dead Island, where you can't even use stealth and sneak to avoid fights. The zombies can see you from a mile away and you have to fight and kill every last one of them. Compare that to The Last of Us where you can generally avoid fights if you are cunning enough. I can't speak for Dead Island, but Left 4 Dead is solid in co-op, be it couch or online. But it's a puddle-deep if you're playing by yourself. You pretty much have to play those kind of games co-op to get so much as a drop of fun out of them.
