Thanks to another one of TNT's Star Wars Marathon this weekend. I wondered how many saw it back in the day and what did you think of the scene where Vader told Luke the truth? Do you believe it or do you think it was a lie?
Since I saw Jedi first as a kid that scene unfortunately wasn't a surprise

I was only five, so I didn't take the significance of it into account. What I do remember, however, is that the previous showing had overrun, so my mum and I took our seats as it was ending. My first sight of Empire was of Luke holding onto the metal structure (I always took it to be a weather vane) before being rescued.

I was either 6 or almost 6. Was surprised and confused by the revelation.

I saw Jedi first in 1992 and then the other two in 1994 when the digitally remastered edition VHSes were released in the U.K., so obviously by that point the big plot twist was very much public knowledge and ancient history.

I was 7 when I first saw it with my dad. We left the theater and he said he figured out the Vader being Luke's father thing (great pilot, strong with the force, much anger in him).
also being only 7, Yoda creeped me out.
still, the best Star Wars movie though.
