I haven't seen it in almost two decades, but what were the problems with the first Spawn movie? I seem to recall it being pretty good.

Glad to see they've got their finger on the pulse of why people like these movies.
That said, Spawn was pretty much indicative of the 'grr, comics are gritty now you guys!' aesthetic, so that makes sense.

Spawn being gory is kind of a given. Like, imagine how hilariously off a PG 13 Spawn movie coming out would be now.
Not that I think we're in some terrific need of another Spawn film, but if you're going to do it, you may as well go whole hog.

Just give it the mysterious/atmospheric horror like vibe of the HBO animated series and focus on the emotional aspect that plagues Al as he struggles between Heaven and Hell. Don't force the angels into the first film, bring them into the sequels, and while I don't see it happening, I can't see Billy Kincaid being popular in this day and age honestly for obvious reasons. Knowing Hollywood they'd try to make that character sympathetic.

Hasn't he been promising another Spawn movie for years? Todd McFarlane has been talking up another Spawn flick for 20 years, pretty much from straight after the first was released

There was a clamoring of fans speaking out for a proper Deadpool flick. Fans have asked for an R rated Wolverine flick since 2000 (and even before I remember Wizard talking about it)...I cannot for the life of me remember when someone was like "I want new spawn movie". Maybe early 2000s. And probably because of the series more than the 90s flick.

I've always wanted to see a proper Spawn film that focuses more on the struggle of Al as he battles his eternal damnation and wanting a second chance at life. Then again, I guess that's why I still watch the HBO animated series. That to me will always be the definitive Spawn.

That said, Spawn was pretty much indicative of the 'grr, comics are gritty now you guys!' aesthetic, so that makes sense. McFarlane, along with Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld, really ushered in a god awful period in comics. A bunch of hotshot artists tried to be creators of character and story, and needless to say it all ended up as severely dated dreck.

But I would much rather see another cartoon like the HBO one than another movie.

Where's the new animated series Todd? You apparently got Keith David to record all his lines, did you do anything else?

I like Spawn, mainly because of Soul Calibur 2.

"Wasn't that record broken? Like the next year?"
"Who wants a new Spawn movie?!?"

Gore?
Awesome.
Just add a nu-metal soundtrack and tribal tattoos and it will be right up to date....with 1998.
