Coming soon! Literally, fall 2017! This was quick! www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/la-et-st-cbs-big-bang-prequel-20170313-story.html- Ian Armitage has been cast as the title character. - Jon Favreau is directing the first episode. - Jim Parsons (old Sheldon) will narrate the series and be an exec producer. - and in one of the neater bits of casting out there perhaps, Zoe Perry - Laurie Metcalf's IRL daughter - follows in her mom's footsteps & has been cast as Sheldon's mom. Also, fun factoid: current contracts for Big Bang Theory's cast run out this year. It's expected that certain people will take paycuts so others can get pay raises, but I'll be damned if this prequel series wasn't being rushed into production in order to address the possibility that the contracts aren't renewed and this suddenly ends up being BBT's last season.

A bad idea that will only tarnish the original. Let's move on quickly.

Been a while since I've seen such an unnecessary concept for a show.

What if it's good? Honestly I like the show despite it's occasional flaws. I have always enjoyed shutting my brain off and watching it. I know a lot of people hate it, but obviously many people do like it. A spin off is a natural way to both force contract negotiations and possibly end a show. Not all spin offs are terrible. I can't even use Joey as an example, because I loathe Friends and never watched Joey. But Some are good. This could be weird or unique enough to work. There is big names attached. If it ends up being a white nerd version of Everybody Hates Chris I could maybe get into it.

This is going to be Joey all over again. This. Why do we need to see every aspect of a fictional character's life? Looking at you, Hannibal Lecter.

You know, its better to just discuss his life on the show. No need to do a "kid genius with lack of empathy in a conservative Christian family down in Texas" as a TV show.
Besides, they are just doing this to stiff on the cast.

Hannibal the show I dare say was better than any of the movies. It has my blessing to exist. This show though I'm not sure what the point is. Now I'm not the biggest fan of the show but still this seems unnecessary.

Besides, they are just doing this to stiff on the cast. Not to mention most of childhood is tragically sad or borders on cartoon supervillainy.

Well, they did enough to make adult sufferers of autism something to laugh at with the original- a sequel picking on the children suffering from autism and having no one particularly care is just the natural progression of "these people should be ashamed of themselves"!

Yeah, he's not. The writers have stated several times Sheldon is not on the spectrum.

Yeah, he's not. The writers have stated several times Sheldon is not on the spectrum. But they've also stated enough times that their viewpoint is "we can make jokes about autism as long as we don't CALL IT autism" to make it that trustworthy.

I'm on the spectrum myself as well as having other mental health issues and I've never found Sheldon offensive. Like, at all. He's just a goofy character.

Jim Parsons practically carries the entire show, but that's only one of 50 reasons why this spin-off will flop.
