Not into BBT and not gonna watch this show, but I just found out that Pondy from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is gonna play his dad. Pondy is the coolest. And he was already on Big Bang Theory, he played Leonard's bully from high school. Here's the trailer I like that they continue to show that Sheldon really did have great parents who loved him, but no Jim Parsons is going to sink this show. You can't expect a kid to be able to pull off Sheldon Cooper, while Parsons is still playing the role.

I remember we were doing a Poll Study in a College Class where the Teacher would show two shows and ask what the better one was. Every one was basically unanimous, then Big Bang Theory vs That 70's Show came up, it was unanimously That 70's Show and the Teacher had picked Big Bang Theory in the slideshow. It was the most wonderfully awkward moment ever where the Teachers Taste in shows kinda died in that moment to the class

I like Big Bang Theory as much as anybody, but that really doesn't look like something I could stand watching.

Fair enough, they at least picked a kid that really can pass for a young Sheldon, but just...nah. I was done with this show years ago. NONE of the characters were likeable over a long enough time span.

Doesn't look bad. It might actually be better than The Big Bang Theory.

This will be a mega-hit probably. BBT was a #1 juggernaut for so long and in the modern pop culture climate of "prequels/origin stories" being the big seller - if it exists on our visual spectrum it'll be a moderate money maker.

He's involved on the producer end, and I believe he's gonna narrate (as he does in this trailer), but yeah still the same. Unless the mom - Laurie Metcalf's daughter, playing the younger version of her real mom - or the dad are expected to blast off as the new star player...?

So, the story of an insufferable asshole everyone puts up with for some reason has a prequel where an insufferable child is put up with by everyone for some reason.

maybe it might be better in the series/grow on me but I wasn't really digging Parsons narration but other than that while it didn't feel particularly original it didn't seem too bad

It does appear Newhart is Professor Proton in that quick flash on the TV, so that's cool.
Still not sure how Sheldon's dad is gonna be pulled off if the series ages because Sheldon basically says he's a mean drunk who didn't really support him.

They changed Sheldon so much over the majority of the series that this may actually be ok if they stick with what he was originally

Actually I watched the promo, and I will give it a chance. I saw sparks of stuff in it.

There's way too much (as in any) "Let's Laugh At The Autistic Child Stereotype!" going on. Seems about right considering what it's supposed to be a spin-off of.
Ugh.

They never really said that Sheldon's dad was bad to Sheldon. Yeah, his dad and mom fought all the time, but Sheldon has mentioned a lot that his dad spent time with him, he watched football with him, taught him how to hunt, and in his own way gave Sheldon tips. He didn't have the interest in science Sheldon did, but they've always maintained that despite the problems in Sheldon's parents' marriage, they both loved him and never treated him bad.

Sheldon was forced to do those things before he was allowed to do his homework, specifically football. Sheldon also knew about his fathers "driving whiskey".
