This is going to be Joey all over again. This. Why do we need to see every aspect of a fictional character's life? Looking at you, Hannibal Lecter. I can't comment on Hannibal, but this is true about horror movie icons. By explaining everything you take the mystique from the characters.

I have no idea what to think about this...I guess we'll see when it's made? I don't know. ^^^^ I'm on the spectrum myself as well as having other mental health issues and I've never found Sheldon offensive. Like, at all. He's just a goofy character. This. It kind of bothers me when people keep telling me I should be offended by Sheldon when I'm not.

How will do a coming of age comedy with a character that has no friends ? Will this all be about him getting bullied at school and clashing with his mom for having different views about religion and science . I can see a one off special working ,not an entire series

I can see a one off special working ,not an entire series His alcoholic father should be a hilarious character, before he dies when Sheldon is 12 or whenever he did. Sheldon was youngish anyway.

So the kid playing him is only going to be nine years old. A smartassed little kid living with "eccentric" parents.
How'd that work out for Seven on Married with Children?

To be fair, calling Seven a smartass is kind of giving the character too much credit. They touched on that a little but mostly just kind of made him precocious, but either way he spent most of his run being conveniently left offscreen and his real biggest crime was that his presence forced everyone around him to act out of character. Especially Peg.

BBT is generally inoffensive and funny enough. It's like my parents go to re-rerun sitcom.
This just sounds like a disaster.

Every here pretty much knows I have Aspergers and yeah they've said Sheldon isn't on the spectrum. Even if they said he was I wouldn't care. I love Sheldon. I actually have in the past called him my spirit animal because I have some of his behaviors.
I'm looking forward to this.

In the last six months, I have warmed to Big Bang because when it's good, it's so good.
This makes me hate it again.

Didn't Steve Urkel grow up to be Sheldon?
I don't see how a young geeky character will be much different.

You know, its better to just discuss his life on the show. No need to do a "kid genius with lack of empathy in a conservative Christian family down in Texas" as a TV show. Besides, they are just doing this to stiff on the cast. They would be far better served focusing on the mother iand older sister onthis show. After all, that is generally a more successful strategy for for sitcoms. Besides, it is rare that a 9 year old is capable of carrying a show, especially since he can't do a lot of character development without implying that he regressed between series.

Considering the staff of the show (probably not just Chuck Lorre) has a thing for Roseanne actors, I would look at possibly having John Goodman guest star as one of the relatives that Sheldon said died in a freak accident. But, I agree; kids can't carry shows, and the reality is that the boy who'll play a young Sheldon WILL age, meaning that they can't rely on the "cuteness" factor that is a common crutch for bad sitcoms. Plus, the only type of "Flashback" sitcom that I really liked was Everybody Hates Chris, because Chris Rock didn't ham it up and go down the Oliver Beene well of making jokes entirely around how everybody's incorrect about the future.

That 70's Show really didn't go down that path either for the most part. It looked at 70's pop culture in an earnest way and rarely took it in that direction. That 80's Show was too hamfisted about it, though.
