My previous job sucked ass, but everyone that worked around me was super nice and I got really well with most of them and we all kinda bonded, so I had that to look forward to every day, even if the job itself was driving me into depression.
In my current job it's better, so I have very few things to complain, and even if I did had anything work related I was bothered by, there's so much positive stuff around it that my head wouldn't even concentrate on that problem.

I'm lucky that I enjoy my job and I'm quite good at it (UK Government call centre), and have been there five years this year. Holidays and treats are a decent motivation for me, and I also thankfully work in a team of friendly people that like a laugh.
The only downside is that I have to commute from the suburbs to London which tires me out (though I'm certainly not alone in this) and costs a fortune (nearly 4K with no fare reduction in sight). I'm looking to take a local job in maybe a year or two, as soon the fares won't justify the wages.

I think of a quote from Dan of "Roseanne" on why he goes to a job he hates:
"We're Conners. We gotta eat."

I've been in my current job just over 8 years, I'm a librarian, nothing exciting.
But a couple of things keep me going, this isn't my life. This is what I use to fund my life, I can put up with it for all the stuff it lets me do, this year, either been on or going on holidays to Malta, Wrestlemania, Morocco and Ibiza. I'm pretty damn lucky.
Also, the people I work with are great. Where I work, they're good at finding cool people to work here. And they suck at keeping them, so there's always someone new and different around, keeping the place fresh.

It lets me travel to cool places I never would have thought I'd be able to see even a couple years ago, so there's that.

I had to switch to part-time this year and it definitely sucks. Not just because of the hit to the paycheck, but because the monotony of being at home constantly is excruciating.

Shit man, I gotta eat, and no other job is gonna pay someone with my lack of qualifications as much as my current job does. Plus it's work from home which is pretty cushy. There's days where I hate it still though.

It helps to have a fulfilling hobby/home life.
That way you're working towards funding something you're enthusiastic about. If all you do is go to work, come home and do nothing - then, yeah, it'll feel empty maybe.

That's why I love my job. I do hospital security. It pays garbage, but a lot of the day I get to sit around and do what I want. But when I have to work - when my job is frankly stupidly dangerous - it's exciting enough that I get a lot of good stories out of it. It's the perfect job for me. A guy who's not particularly smart, but is a decent talker and likes to be a physical dude.

As much of a drag as working is, I've learned from saving all my disposable income for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas and L.A. that having more time on your hands than money is even more of a drag.
Besides, for the last three years my job involved so much downtime they might as well have been paying me to post on here, since that's what I spent most of my shifts doing.
I once covered a shift at another site in the company, and the janitor there worked an insane schedule. She'd work 150+ nights in a row, take a couple of weeks holiday, then repeat. She's crazy, I get testy when I have to work 10 in a row.

I like having stuff.
Working a job allows me to get more stuff.

I work at a prison for the State of Wyoming, and they are the single worst employer I've ever had. There are definitely days I don't want to go in. I don't want to deal with my department's lies, the unsafe working conditions they create for their security staff, or the scumbags I work with and work for.
I deal with it because it gives me the means to an end, to supporting myself in the lifestyle I am accustomed to. I do it because I've been there long enough to carve out a niche for myself that provides some comfort.
And as has been posted before, I do it because I'm a grown up.

I work the midnight shift, I work at least 7 straight nights before I get a day off. I've also been unemployed for several months at a time. Believe me, I don't mind working every day after that, I'm grateful even.

I was unemployed for a few years... I found it worse than working honestly. I thought you mods were paid handsomely, if not unfairly, with Madison taking 85% of total after tax earnings.

Just think of it as money for time. Everyone gets sick of working in general but when the alternative is just be broke and useless to society than you are literally getting paid to grin and bear it. Think towards your weekends, days off, vacation days or just whatever you want to do when you get off. Try to enjoy your work or at the very least who you work with. I worked in vending for two years filling orders. It was pretty good, not having to deal with customers and staying so busy, most days would just fly by. What it did give me was six to eight hours a day to listen to my music and podcasts. What soured me on the job was, they gave me a supervisor who did nothing 80% of the time. Kept piling on work for me when I could barely finish my job most days. Also, new hires who would go slow on purpose so when I got done, I'd have to help them finish. I ended up quitting because of all of it and haven't worked a real job in over two years since. Now, I take care of a disabled parent and that's a story for another day.
