Chicago, I live not too far from there. Memphis, made a few run-throughs. San Diego, my aunt lived there. Stopped in a lot of them on flights. (I got so sick of the Atlanta airport.)
That's about it for "major cities". My favorite of the smaller ones is Savannah, Georgia. Beautiful homes everywhere and the Southern belles are drop dead gorgeous.

1. Washington DC. As the history/polisci junkie I am, this is heaven. I love the city, the history, the pitfalls, the promise. In short, America in miniature in one city.
2. Chicago. My family has roots here, so it's virtually home. Very much a city in transition these days, dealing with its problems while trying to be something more. Reminders of its roots and culture are everywhere and all clustered on a lake front. Oh, and of course, home of the long suffering finally rewarded 2016 World Series winning Cubs. Not dropping that for a LONG time.
3. Los Angeles. I was born and raised in its shadow. Truth be told, it's a city that stretches far beyond its core downtown. You can argue that it goes all the way south to the next major city San Diego and north to a minimum of Santa Barbara, East virtually to Las Vegas. It is huge and so diverse depending on where you visit, from the affluence of Orange Country to the culture of Chinatown and it's Hispanic centers. It's a melting pot and quite overwhelming at times.
4. New York City. I've been twice, spent a total of eight days in the city and I still feel I haven't scratched the surface. Culture, history, hopes, tears, this city is yet another American microcosm, remembering the past while reaching for the future. It's also contradictory, affluence of Fifth Avenue sandwiched between culture of Harlem and the Village while blue collar is across the river in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Long Island. It's something, truly.
5. Boston. Only visited once for two days and dying to return. So much history, so much of a story to tell, both old and new. From the Heights to the bay with the Greene in between and a little ballpark in the Fens, this is another city where America began and continues to be.

1) Seattle, WA 2) Portland, OR 3) Orlando, FL (mainly for the amusement parks) 4) Indianapolis, IN (mainly its nicer suburbs like Fishers, Brownsburg, and Carmel) 5) Madison, WI (my exposure was limited to downtown and around campus, but it was all positive experiences for me)
My least favorite big city? That would be Las Vegas, NV. I lived in the poor section of that cesspool in the late 70's. I will never see that city as anything other than the taint of humanity.

Every state capital from Missouri east. All by car...love road trips. (the states north and south of MO count in that group)
