I had forgotten just how bad this movie is.

Especially coming off the heels of what I believe is the strongest TF movie, Dark of the Moon.

There is such a thing is a final battle scene being too long and too over the top

None of them were that good, but at least the first 3 were watchable. Even with their flaws they could be enjoyed. I know there are those that enjoyed AOE, but I found it pretty unwatchable.

Can't for the life of me remember anything about this film. Saw it at the cinema and in bits and pieces on TV, but nothing sticks. And I Rate the first Bay Transformers as one of my all time favourites.
I assume it's my body's self preservation kicking in?

The only thing I really remember is that there was some bit in China, John Goodman as a transformer, and then the Dinobots crammed in nonsensically at the end

I don't hate the Bayformers movies as much as most, but my god how I wish we could have a more G1-ish movie version of the Transformers.
More G1-ish in look and more emphasis on the actual f'n Transformers. Plus as a huge Grimlock mark, Me want Grimlock as Grimlock.

There is DVD extras footage of them animating Barricade in the style of G1. The blocky look was horrible so they changed design to what we now have, which is strangely much better. He also had to pepper out the film with humans as his budget limited robots appearances. However, that doesn't excuse the mess he output when he did have his desired budget.

I think there's a medium between the "blocky" G1 look at the Bayformers look. The problem with the Bayformers look is that during the action you have too much problem telling them apart. It's one blob of metal vs. one blob of metal. No real distinct colors, no real distinct look.

All I remember if I think really hard is Optimus descending into psychotic paranoia, murdering a human and flying off into space without taking any repairs after his final boss battle

It's one blob of metal vs. one blob of metal. No real distinct colorvs, no real distinct look. Agreed. The only discernable characters in look and personality are Optimus and Bumblebee. It worked well in the first film as there were limited characters - each of the 5 autobots had a distinctive look and personality as well as the decepticons.

Especially coming off the heels of what I believe is the strongest TF movie, Dark of the Moon. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I'm just here like "did we see the same movie?" I legitimately took a friend with me to see that, PAID for his ticket, and then with the gloomiest face and heaviest of hearts, apologized for having wasted 2 hours and some change of his time. That one really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Being an employee at a movie theatre affords perks of being able to watch free movies before the public. We held a midnight employee screening of Age of Extinction. It was me, my assistant manager, and a couple of co-workers for this particular viewing. As the movie was going on I felt myself getting restless, looking at my phone, and realizing that we made it past the two hour mark. I looked at my manager and said "This movie is still going?" He responded "Yep".
I looked at my phone again and said "WE HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN TO THE DINOBOTS YET?! JESUS CHRIST!"
To this very day I haven't watched the movie again and while I do own it, a part of me just wants them to do a live action Transformers: The Movie(1986). I am just completely over Bay's Transformers and I actually like Michael Bay. I loved The Rock, Armageddon, Bay Boys 1 and 2, Pain and Gain, and even have a soft spot for Pearl Harbor. But even now I find myself not caring about The Last Knight.

1. Poor Ratchet, I liked him in the first movie and the way he was killed off was not cool!
2: Loved Goodman as Hound, he was the best of the new Autobots
all I gotta add

I forget who it was who described Megatron in the first one as "a pile of silver knives", but that really nailed it.
