I thought nirvana/Kurts "My girl" or "in the pines" was original... it's from an old blues singer in the 20s or 30s

Isn't "In The Ghetto" a song that Elvis covered? Not according to Wikipedia, which says it was written by Mac Davis for Elvis.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

Many Australians including myself think or thought for long time that the song 'Funkytown' was originally by Australian rock group Pseudo Echo. Thought it was cool Homer being really into an Australian song when he mentioned it on The Simpsons once.
But no, later found out it was originally by a disco act called Lipps Inc.

I had already known this, but someone I know didn't realize that "How I Could Just Kill a Man" was originally done by Cypress Hill. He thought that Rage Against The Machine had originally done it.

The Ramones have some great tunes that turned out to be covers from before their time. Which was the thing to do for the genre but I just believed in The Ramones versions.

I didn't know God Gave Rock N Roll To You wasn't originally by Kiss until I heard the Argent version a few years later.
Similar with George Harrison and Got My Mind Set On You (James Ray did the original)

Didn't know "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" was a Buzzcocks song. Thought Tijuana Panthers wrote it in 2014.

Similar with George Harrison and Got My Mind Set On You (James Ray did the original) Was going to post that one. Since it was taken, I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany of 1980s pop hit fame, was actually a cover of Tommy James and the Shondells. The one that really surprised me, however, was Blondie's Hanging on the Telephone, written and performed by The Nerves two years prior!

I didn't know "Girlfriend in A Coma" was originally done by The Smiths before Mojo Nixon covered it. There's even a breakdown where Mojo tries to absolve himself of any blame for the song's lyrics by singing "Don't blame me. Blame the guy who wrote this song. Blame Morrissey" When I first heard this I thought it was one of those non-sequitors that Mojo Nixon is known for, thinking "Yeah, that's a hilarious premise. Morrissey writing a Mojo Nixon song!" then I do some research and find out that this is actually a cover of a song originally recorded by The Smiths!
