I didn't know "Girlfriend in A Coma" was originally done by The Smiths before Mojo Nixon covered it. There's even a breakdown where Mojo tries to obsolete himself of any blame for the song's lyrics by singing "Don't blame me. Blame the guy who wrote this song. Blame Morrissey" When I first heard this I thought it was one of those non-sequitors that Mojo Nixon is known for, thinking "Yeah, that's a hilarious premise. Morrissey writing a Mojo Nixon song!" then I do some research and find out that this is actually a cover of a song originally recorded by The Smiths! That's funny because I'm the reverse - I didn't know anyone covered The Smiths haha

I had no idea Tesla's "Little Suzi" was a cover of "Little Suzi's on the Up" by Ph.D. All I had ever heard was the Tesla version and when MTV Classic aired the first hour of MTV and the Ph.D video came on, I was like "whaaaaa?" I also love the story Paul McCartney told once about GNR covering "Live and Let Die": "About fifteen years ago, my kids went to see Guns N' Roses at Wembley, and they all came home wearing the t-shirts and bloody bandannas. I asked what the coolest part of the concert had been, and my daughter Stella said 'Live and Let Die.' I said, 'Hey, I wrote that!' and the kids went 'Yeah, Dad, sure. Tell us another one.'" this is hilarious, because whenever i hear paul mcartney's version of it, i always say to my mom "i didn't know he covered GNR songs"

I always associated the song Everybody want to rule the world with Tears for fears until I found out that it's been around since 1912.

Another one: I had no idea that "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" by Crash Test Dummies was an XTC song.

I always associated the song Everybody want to rule the world with Tears for fears until I found out that it's been around since 1912. Same for me with The Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", and i'm glad I took the time to listen to the original version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Nina Simone as her version is now my favorite.
