I'm listening to the radio and it just randomly put on Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, which is rather weird for me because I only ever previously was familiar with the song through the Dixie Chicks and thought it was unique to them.
To be honest I prefer the cover. I like Fleetwood Mac a lot normally but kind of too sedate on that one.

How can we answer if we don't know?

How can we answer if we don't know? Well, the title says, "didn't," rather than, "don't," which would imply you found out eventually.

I didn't know "I Think We're Alone Now" was a cover.

I didn't realize "Gloria" by the Doors wasn't an original of theirs for years.

For years I didn't realise that Rockin' All Over the World by Status Quo was a cover.

I always assumed that Soft Cell were the ones who wrote Tainted Love.
Also, Madness did a very elaborate, James Bond-y version of 'If I Didn't Care', and given that I was 10, I had no idea it was a cover. Was quite weird when I first heard The Ink Spots original.

I had no idea Tesla's "Little Suzi" was a cover of "Little Suzi's on the Up" by Ph.D. All I had ever heard was the Tesla version and when MTV Classic aired the first hour of MTV and the Ph.D video came on, I was like "whaaaaa?"
I also love the story Paul McCartney told once about GNR covering "Live and Let Die":
"About fifteen years ago, my kids went to see Guns N' Roses at Wembley, and they all came home wearing the t-shirts and bloody bandannas. I asked what the coolest part of the concert had been, and my daughter Stella said 'Live and Let Die.' I said, 'Hey, I wrote that!' and the kids went 'Yeah, Dad, sure. Tell us another one.'"

"Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia. I think I learned that on this very forum.
"There She Goes" by Sixpence None the Richer.
"I'm Free" by The Soup Dragons.
"I Want to Be With You Always" by John Prine.

Aerosmith "Let the Music Do the Talking" is a cover, with reworked lyrics of the Joe Perry Project original.
So Joe covered his own song.

I knew Daft Punk did samples and covers, but had not ever heard what Robot Rock was sampling.
Nothing against Daft Punk, but Breakwater's "Release the Beast" is much more awesome.

I initially thought "Behind Blue Eyes" was a Limp Bizkit original.

I thought the Run DMC version of Walk This Way was the original. Had no idea it was originally just Aerosmith .

I had no idea that "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls was originally done by Tori Alamaze. I also had no idea who Tori Alamaze was.
