And they built Holly for months and actually had other guys like Big Show job to him. Jinder literally went from Jobber to champion pretty much without explanation. But there was an explanation. He got backup to help him win the number one contendership, he hasn't lost a match since winning it, and tonight they helped him win the title. He's pinned Sami, Orton(in a 6-man tag), and AJ before tonight. That's the three top faces currently on SD (excluding Nakamura). They actually put effort into building him up since he came to SD. But since he's Jinder Mahal, no one really took it seriously. Which...should kind of tell you all you need to know about how worthy of the title he is. Nobody took his build seriously enough to note it as build, and THAT GUY is now your champ?

5 weeks ago this guy was jobbing to Rob Gronkowski, and now he's the WWE champion. Fixed for accuracy.

I cannot wait for this thread to end due to an RKO on Sunday. Jinder is somehow failing at Alberto Del Rios shtick. It's not a hard shtick.

To be fair, Gronk is kind of a bad motherf***er.

To be fair, Gronk is kind of a bad motherf***er. And that female guard is even badder.

Reports came out weeks ago that this whole crew Jinder's got was going to get a big push and they weren't sure if he was winning the title. Welp, this is a huge push. I look forward to other members. Doesn't matter if the title leaves him now, he's made the most out of this month worth of booking.

5 weeks ago this guy was jobbing to Mojo Rawley, and now he's the WWE champion. To be fair, the wins Mojo got weren't clean, both had Gronk interference, which is kind of where I think Mahal got the idea for the Singh Brothers in the first place, strength in Numbers.

Eh. I played some Smash Bros. and I'm pretty much over it now but all the same, yeah, not intending to watch SmackDown until he's lost the belt. Whenever that is, we'll see I guess, but is what it is.

I mentioned this in the PPV thread, but Jinder is not being portrayed as a legitimate champion. The announcers were shocked he won. Renee was shocked he won. Sami Zayn was shocked he won. No on is looking at Jinder as a legitimate champion. They are all saying he was an extremely lucky underdog. This is all being done for storyline purposes and he is in no way the new face of the company or a permanent main eventer. While the record books will forever list him as a WWE Champion, odds are this will all otherwise be forgotten once he loses the title, which could happen as early as next month. And all will be right with the world.

I can't knock them or him for being like hey f*** it lets give this a month to see what happens. I wish they would of did that with Ryback when he went against Punk. I doubt Jinder walks into Summerslam champion but let the dude ride this wave he's on. It reminds me of his IG post after Mania where he talked about last year he was watching Mania on his phone and this year he's on the preshow and he wants to continue to do more. At worst Orton wins the title back on Tuesday and people will complain about that. Let's see where this goes.

Honestly I'm thinking where it's going is Orton takes the title back at Money in the Bank then Rusev immediately cashes in, and that leads off into a triple threat then into Rusev vs. Orton and Jinder vs. AJ for the US title, then eventually to Rusev vs. AJ. Which at least sounds like a good place to end up at, even if the road there is waaaaay less than ideal.

I think this thread would've been made even if Mahal would've won a lesser belt.
They're separate things but this feels like the Cleveland Browns winning the super bowl.

I figured from the second he got the Singh brother that his reign, if he won, would be similar to JBL's where he kept barely winning thanks to interference.

The relentless boring tv for years has gotten me to the point where this barely bothers me.
Two years ago I'd have been pissed. Now I'm like, "well if I keep liking this less and less I'll have way more time in my week." I haven't watched anything but PPVs for a year. Roman hasn't run me off. Maybe Jinder can pull it off.

5 weeks ago this guy was jobbing to Mojo Rawley, and now he's the WWE champion. In all fairness I'm glad the Mojo experiment never made it out the test kitchen and I legitimately hope Jinder squashes him. I also hope his WWE title reign is no more than a months or so.
