*logs into fan*
"So Mahal wins the WWE Championship? Hoo boy"
*Relaxes, grabs popcorn and begins to read*
A few years back I'd be annoyed, and I have actually enjoyed Mahal since he returned but this all seems so surreal. I don't really know what to think! I have a low interest in the main tv shows and PPV's lately and this won't effect that much either way.

Having slept on it I'm a little more agitated. On a show with AJ and KO, they pick this dude. Hell after the 2016 they had I'd have liked to see Miz or Ziggler get another shot but nope. Random mediocre job guy.
If Jinder has an amazing title run I would absolutely love to be wrong. I just don't think I will be.

I don't even know what to say about this.
He's got to be the most unready guy to become WWE champion since at least the territorial days. People like to complain about the credibility of the NWA title dropping over the years, well this is along those same lines. Dude has literally never done anything up until this point, and he's rewarded with the company's longest used and most prestigious title. How is this good for business? Are people going to watch for the WTF factor? Like, is that really how we're going to book wrestling now?
This is the 5th guy this year to be WWE champion. I get that Orton is tired and bland but... couldn't we do ANYTHING else? AJ Styles? Rusev? Anyone with some credibility? People bitch about JBL jumping up the ladder and becoming champion, but at least his character fit the environment of what was happening in the world at the time, plus he was halfway credible as a midcarder who kicked people's asses. On top of that, he was a very good promo. This is the same company that was fearful of Daniel Bryan leaving the arena as champion and refused to push so many other guys on that level because they weren't perceived as credible.
What am I missing here? Some market that WWE is trying to appeal to? This was your best option for that? That's like trying to appeal to China with Kwang the Ninja as champion. Hell, maybe WWE is so stupid, they took the ironic meme of "don't hinder Jinder" seriously. It's a joke.
Man, I think the WCW title was treated better in it's latter years. Yes, I'm serious. David Arquette was a better option than f***ing Jinder Mahal.

I'll go against the grain here. For as dull and predictable as the WWE is and has been for years, they did something different. Whether it's good or bad is up to you to decide, but it's different. It's not something you could have set your watch to like practically everything else they do. Besides that, do I think Jinder's on something? Yes. To be that big with that little body fat will look suspicious. That's what all the veins are indicative of; low BF%. I was 8% BF once and I was veiny as well. Difference was I was about 160 lbs with 8% BF. Jinder is probably well over 200 and that's something that would raise an eyebrow for me. I agree. I was always a big guy, but at one time I was 260 lbs with 30% body fat. Now I am at 210 with 17% bodyfat. It is extremely hard, at least for me, to shed and get into the 10% body fat range. And this is me doing a keto diet at 1800 calories per day. It is also equally as hard to gain significant muscle mass. I think 10 pounds of lean muscle per year is what I can do, if I am lucky. Anyways, I suspect a lot of them are on the juice or was on the juice before and just now maintaining the mass/body fat percentage. Considering that they are always on the road and a lot of times eating junk food, I don't buy many of them being natural. Dolph Ziggler, from what I heard, had to gain 30 pounds of mass before entering the WWE while maintaining the same cut. It is impossible to do naturally.

Mahal should flip the W on the centre plate upside down to be an M, bling the title out in full Bollywood jewelry. Tiger stripe print on the leather. Choreographed dancers in his entrance. just going HARD on being a egotistical pomp-and-circumstance champion with a chip on his shoulder...who is still dull as dishwater in the ring.

I love how I have watched countless people on here whine about how "WWE should have a contender come out of nowhere and actually win just to shake things up a bit", and when they finally do exactly that, it causes more whining than almost anything else that has ever happened.
Mahal has been knocking it out of the park with this run. His mic work has been good, and he actually made a Randy Orton match watchable, so his ring work has been exemplary in my eyes.
Personally, I don't think anyone would be whining nearly as much if he hadn't smacked Finn Blander with that forearm. Dude's been the best heel in the company.

He is like the Leicester City of WWE So as champion he's going to flounder around the midcard before his veins revolt against him forcing a change of manager?

JBL had been over as a midcard act for years before winning the belt. Miz too. Sheamus was protected early on and won most of his matches.
Jinder Mahal debuted in the main roster in 2011, and except very few ocassions, he lost most of his matches. This is like one day all of the sudden Barry Horowitz winning the belt.
It's so bad that if Jinder would've joined tna and win their "prestigious" belt, most of us in the tna thread would still have complained.

If Jinder spent significant time on the indies, would people be as outraged?

I gotta ask tho... How many of you are actually going to stop watching? I've decided to take a break. I'll be back for Extreme Rules. But this was a total shock value move by WWE, a cry for attention. I'm not going to give them what they want.

I gotta ask tho... How many of you are actually going to stop watching? Haven't watched anything sans old PPVs since January. This decision is like seeing your ex become a complete wreck. No regrets from me. (Before I get "why are you here?", I still like to keep tabs incase something sounds worth checking out.)

What would make this complete is if Mahal dropped the Championship to Mojo in a shock match tonight. I'd laugh.

I gotta ask tho... How many of you are actually going to stop watching? I haven't watch Smackdown or Raw in weeks, I only watched Backlash because in my country the wwe ppvs are shown for free as part of a movie channel, but it's not like I bought the ppv. I don't know I'm 21 years in as a fan and for the first time missing a show it's not a big deal. Like tonight I'm more interested in the NBA playoffs instead of raw to tell you the truth.

Those were probably not the same people whining. Or if they were, they probably don't like Jinder Mahal. That seems pretty reasonable. It's cool you like him. I don't. I'm not a fan of Blander ( good one BTW) either and that forearm was an accident. Don't care about that. I just think Jinder is at best the maybe 12th best guy on Smackdown. He shouldn't be near any title. And yo answer two other questions on this page: 1. People don't have to stop watching if they don't like s match decision. That's ridiculous. 2. If Jinder were on the indies he might not suck so maybe people would like him more? Erick Rowan worked on the indies and not many people champion him as really great. So that argument also continues to be ridiculous

I don't care one way or the other about his record with injuries. I don't care for what I've seen of Balor either. The reason for the "whining" is because coming out of left field with little credibility helps no one. The arena wasn't sold out for this in Chicago and I bet the people who ordered this, the numbers will likely be down and the ratings won't pick up because there's zero interest in seeing a guy most people aren't aware exists becoming champion. I'll defend Sheamus winning the title out of nowhere because he was at least fairly credible, but Jinder spent years losing to everyone. But whatever, consider it "whining" for the company to have the oversight to book a guy to win the title because some people like being ironic. If Jinder spent significant time on the indies, would people be as outraged? If he had zero traction from the get go? Yes. Also if he had no name recognition to really build on, it would be bad too.

I'm at 20 years and I forgot Backlash happened until I got on here. I'm still interested obviously because I'm annoyed at Jinder winning, but I haven't watched wrestling since Mania and that is a long stretch for me.

Honestly, I think this would have been better if it was with one of the midcard titles instead. Not the world title. But even then, the lack of build Jinder Mahal has had up to this point just makes all of this look silly. I know people are all about the anything can happen narrative and it can work to a degree, but like this with a perennial jobber? I don't think so.

THIS DUDE NEVER CHANGES HIS NAME OR AVATAR! DO IT! Beginning to regret that post now. I really don't want it to get 100 likes. If I'm getting into that club, it's not going to be for a "like this 100 times for......." post. And even if I did change the name, the Avatar will never change. Ted Striker will forever be there! At least you didn't say that you'd eat your hat.

I gotta ask tho... How many of you are actually going to stop watching? I haven't watched RAW in years because Reigns has been the main focus of almost every segment, at least on Smackdown you can just skip Mahal's parts. If everything starts revolving around him I might, although I don't dislike him as much as Roman, at least saying 'Based Maharaja' is fun. If Jinder spent significant time on the indies, would people be as outraged? Well most people improve on the indies so probably not.
