Amazing how downhill the series went after the first movie.
Watching the first movie as a kid I can tell you right now I wasn't ready for Murphy's death. Also another R Rated movie that had a toyline. I'm surprise parents didn't complain about it.
Second Movie is just crazy
As for the third Yeah I'm out. even as a kid I thought this sucked.
And the less said about the cartoon the better

After recently rewatching Robocop 2 on it's new Blu ray release, while flawed, I think holds up pretty well and is a worthy followup to the first.
It's amazing how so many hard R movies were marketed to kids back in the 90's. I still remember going to see Robo 2 in the theater when I was 6 years old
Robocop 3, I won't touch with a ten foot pole.

For the third movie you could tell it was for kids with so many commercials for it on WWF TV

Loved the 1st, thought the 2nd wasn't bad, 3rd was horrid. Shout out to the Sci fi mini series though. While cheesy and cheap looking I still enjoyed the hell out of it.

The first one.
From I what read the only reason it was created was just to do a toyline

It's a movie that didn't need to be a franchise. The story was told in the first one.

Much like The Expendables, it's a franchise that lost it's sense of self parody as it went on. What's left is not fun to watch.
FOLLOW UP QUESTION>>> Was that Peter Weller at Capitol Combat? I've seen it was in a few places, but it just can't be.

absolutely LOVE the first two, saw the first one four times in the cinema, twice for 2. and if only the third was released when the studio was stable, but i thought the japanese samurai robots were cool as heck and i also have the set of four tv movies, that i'll watch when i do a binge of them all wish i could have bought the cane figure and pair him up with a general grievous one

I might be the only person in the world that doesn't mind RoboCop 3 Same here. Aside from the suicidal prototypes, RoboCop 2 sucked for me.

It's a movie that didn't need to be a franchise. The story was told in the first one. Pretty much. Murphy got his humanity back in the first movie. You're going to just turn around and make him a robot again in the second movie? I love the first movie, it's highly quotable, gory and hilarious. On top of that as mentioned, the story is good. Second movie had some of the same themes as the first but without the character arc for Murphy. Lewis isn't given much to do, and I thought the bad guys just weren't that impressive. I could have been okay with this if we saw Murphy continue struggling with being half robot half man. Third movie starts off okay, Lewis is at least being given something to do, but then they kill her off. Murphy doesn't even lament her death that well. The whole movie just feels hollow and doesn't have the same spark as the other two in terms of themes and atmosphere. The first movie also gave us this;

For reasons unknown, here in the UK the main commercial channel ITV once showed Robocop at 8pm on a Tuesday night.
Needless to say, it was as edited as you can possibly imagine. The convenience store robbery 'F*** ME!' line, for example, was replaced with 'Why me?'... (*facepalm*)
I'm not keen in censorship in general - I should be able to decide if I'm offended by something. However, putting something like Robocop on midweek at 8pm was never going to be a good idea!
