It really feels like its gender swapped, i.e. Cruise is the Weisz character. That said, mummy being female is fine by me. There's nothing in Egyptian undead menace that has to be one or the other. Yeah, it's not like Women weren't Mummified.

I might brave a trip to the theater to see this. All I really care about in movies is if the monster effects actually look good on a big screen, and at least so far, I like how they look in the trailer. That's also why I'm potentially excited about more Universal monster movies.

Mumm-Ra's action figure actually came with Ma-Mutt. Poor thing wasn't articulated at all though, so he didn't get much of being played with by me.

Like, similar vibes I'm getting off The Mummy because it looked kinda generic and I'm really glad I saw EoT at the theater because it was alot of fun. Hoping the same thing happens for the Mummy

There are people who hate the 99 movie? I can at least understand the hate for the sequel It it wasn't for Rachel Wiesz I probably wouldn't have made it through the first one. I mean I know 1999 was a crazy time but the idea of Brendan Fraiser as an action hero was a million times less believable than ancient mummy magic. To be fair, if Hollywood can make action stars out of the Fresh Prince, the pudgy guy from Parks and Rec, the balding guy from Moonlighting, Ted Theodore Logan, the weirdo from Vampire's Kiss, a Ukrainian fashion model, an Australian song-and-dance man, and a washed-up middle-aged reformed drug addict then I can't see why Brendan Fraser would be any less believable. It's not like The Mummy was a serious action movie.

It was after "The Mummy" his career started to plummet with Garbage like Dudley Do-Right, Bedazzled & Monkeybone

His movies are rarely bad. Forgettable, sometimes. A quick look at IMDB suggests that the one two punch of Inkheart and Furry Vengeance was the last straw for Brendan Fraser and major projects

The Reviews are out and they... are not good. 26% Rotten Tomatoes.
Doesn't mean it won't make a mint, or that people would find it enjoyable... but yeah... critics are trashing it.
edit: and some of the "Good reviews" say things like calling it Aimless and lukewarm.

ew.com/movies/2017/06/07/tom-cruise-the-mummy-movie-reviews/Can't say I'm surprised but oy. Big three things I got out of the reviews: it's as generic of a flick as it comes, Tom Cruise feel way out-of-place and it's basically just a long preview for their Dark Cinematic Universe Hard, hard pass, I'll wait till it's on HBO.

*shrug*
Don't care, I never really listen to critics all that much anyway. A lot of movies that got rave reviews I ended up hating (Rogue One, Creed etc)

It's not gonna do great $ wise, WW is still gonna rake in the dough this weekend. At best it will finish 2nd.
Review wise, dunno what they expected beyond Cruise v Mummy.
Looks like a bargain matinee flick. Always has.

The movie should end with Tom Cruise being saved from certain death by Ardeth Bay.

What's so weird is that no one outside of Universal really gives a shit about their Dark Universe.
I mean, if you give me a movie where Frankenstein fights the Wolfman or whatever I'll take a look; but as far as any continuity? Not a concern.

Also them trying to shoehorn in a Phantom and Hunchback movie doesn't really make any sense in a modern setting. For Phantom... is he going to be pretending to be a tourist as he walks around the catacombs? Ignoring that since the 40's movie the main pop culture version of the Phantom is the Andrew Lloyd Weber version... we had that poll on the board a few weeks ago and the stage version won pretty decisively.

I've seen "fair reviews". No one is calling it horrible but no one is calling it good either. Some of the reviews I've seen said Cruise did not add a whole lot to this movie
