Aside from the Scorpio being too high-priced, this was a solid showing by Microsoft. I still see Sony wiping the floor with the competition, but this conference still impressed me.

EA's conference was...weird. I could see what they tried but then it came off like they didn't know who their main audience was for watching it. Was it fans of YouTube/streaming influencers? Because it comes off as super shady if so. The titles look solid, Battlefront 2 on paper looks great, A Way Out was the last game I expected from the maker of Brothers but I do want to give that a play. Need for Speed looks cool enough. But the presentation was just weird.
Microsoft's overall message of 4K didn't do much for me because I know I won't afford a 4K TV for a while but the range of titles they had to show was the best in a long time. Most of the stuff they put on the main stage I want to at the least see more of and at the most want to play right now. So the first time in a long time, I want an Xbox One. I don't see the need for an Xbox One X until a price drop happens.

The $500 price point for the XbonenobX doesn't bother me because I had no intention of ever buying it. Fortunately, it does seem like it really is just a better Xbox One for those with 4K TV's, which isn't me. As long as everything works just fine in the significantly cheaper Xbox One S, I'm good.
I was impressed by the breadth of games shown at MS' conference. No awkward live exchanges between actors. Just no nonsense showing the games. The exact opposite of EA's conference. Also it's great seeing the OG Xbox games starting to get backwards compatibility support.

Like, the last couple of Xbox conferences have been game showcases and they've all done the job intended. The biggest problem with last year's is that, if you watch it back again, most of the big showcase games they showed either didn't turn out good (Re:Core) or got cancelled (Scalebound).

I was sad about ReCore bombing like that. You figure a game from some of the people behind MegaMan and the Metroid Prime series couldn't go wrong. And then it did.

Very meh presentation. Skyrim to Switch looks neat since you can use Amiibos in it, Fallout 4 VR would be great if I owned a VR set, Wolfenstein looks amazeballs and that trailer may have swayed me to check it out.

Has there been a racing game that has NASCAR, Indy, Road Courses & Le Mas all in one package? iRacing does, but the pricing model and focus on competitive simulation play is a bit off-putting to the average gamer (monthly subscription fee, in addition to one-off, but almost necessary, purchases of individual car models and tracks). |
