Oh boy oh boy. I cannot wait for the excitement of redoing my credit card, my ID card and my social security card. It's going to be great!

This has happened to me several times, only once did I not end up recovering the wallet and cards after already reordering my credit card and getting a new license. I still don't have my social security card, as it just sounds like a nightmare to get a new one and I have the number memorized.

There is NO reason to do so.

One of the worst feelings in the world.
I remember losing my wallet just days before I was due to fly to the States for the '08 Royal Rumble.
The amount of stress it caused.
Sods law it was found whilst I was out there.

I once lost mine when inevitably it contained lots of money. Someone found it, contacted my parents and held it for me while I went to collect it. There are some honest people out there, dude - I feel your pain, but you might yet get it back.

It happened to me also a month ago, didn't think I'd see it again until the police came to my doorstep and brought the wallet back with cards and cash still intact, I still changed my cards as I wanted to be on the safe side.

Wow lost mine yesterday. Had to take off work today to replace everything. Cancelled the credit card right away. Luckily i live in walking distance to both the dmv and my bank so I was able to replace my Id and debit card too. Actually got my debit card in a matter of minutes because they had a new fast working machine. Pissed off but everything is/will be replaced. Luckily I don't carry my social security card in there

Just now I thought of this: I only use one key, the front door to my house, so I keep said key inside the coin pocket of my wallet. Now I'm thinking I shouldn't, in case I lose the whole wallet. I can still likely get in my house, since I live with 3 family members, but the talk here of not keeping SSN cards in a wallet got me thinking: On a scale of 1 to Dante, is it an idiot move to keep the house key in the wallet?

Oh, you guys will probably hate me for the dumb luck in my experience.
I know I keep bringing up my New York trip but here is something that made panic..... mildly. I will explain.
I have a smartphone wallet. So I carry my cards and my phone in one place. I know it's not smart but I try to be careful.
But in New York, I did lose it temporally. Now it was not bad as it sounds because I was not carrying my payment cards and ID in it (I was using a separate TRAVEL GUARD wallet, which has a skimming prevention chip for those). The only things in the phone wallet were my iPhone, my hotel room keycard, and (cause I forgot to take it out before traveling) a business card for my sister's home decorating business.
I lost it, Central Park. I was Mildly worried cause, OK I will just ask hotel reception for a new keycard, get to my hotel room, get my iPad, use the find my phone app to find where it is if I can, and erase my data if I have to.
But I did not have to do that, I retraced my steps to a park bench near the southeast ice rink I remembered where I last used the phone.. and to my astonishment... It was still there! I was in New York, I foolishly left my phone on a Central Park Bench for about 20 minutes.. and it was not used to get someone their next meth hit.
That was very lucky.
But it must suck to lose your shit like that.

DON'T CARRY YOUR SSN CARD ON YOU! There is NO reason to do so. Doesn't it specifically tell you on the form to keep it in a lockbox or something?

"Here's my house key, and also some stuff that, if it doesn't just tell you my address, makes it simple to find out." Yeah, I'd probably stop doing that.

I got one of those LockWallets as a gift. My wife gave me some money to put inside. Broke the zipper.
I think the Wallet imploded due to the shock of actually having money inside.

I only need my apartment key as well, but I don't put it in my wallet. What I've done is put it on a 20 year old keychain with a ton of old and completely useless keys, so even if my keys got stolen, and the person somehow got my address, they'd have one hell of a time figuring out which key is the right one before drawing attention to themselves.

I'm always petrified of this happening. A friend of mine actually left his wallet on a tray while eating out once and just dumped it into the trash. We had to go back so he could dig through the trash, haha.

DON'T CARRY YOUR SSN CARD ON YOU! There is NO reason to do so. Yeah there are. Plenty of documentation that requires my number and knowing myself, I'm afraid it's gonna slip under something and I won't be able to find it any more if I keep it at home. Plus I want to be sure I have it on me when I go to the doctor or the pharmacy (don't know how it works in the US but in France, the SSN card is also swiped before you make a payment so you are automatically reimbursed). I once lost mine when inevitably it contained lots of money. Someone found it, contacted my parents and held it for me while I went to collect it. There are some honest people out there, dude - I feel your pain, but you might yet get it back. I'm not worried about someone stealing it. I already had the credit card cancelled so even if some ill-inentioned person finds it, they won't be able to do anything with it, and I must have had about 12€ tops in there. It's just annoying. :/ The main thing is, it's gonna take ages to get everything done and in the meantime, I'm gonna have to write checks and look up papers like some sort of caveman!
