I got the Raspberry Pi when I couldn't find the NES Classic at retail, and refused to pay 400+% the retail price from resellers. I now consider myself lucky, the Raspberry Pi is a far more capable machine. I can't see any good reason to buy the SNES Classic now either. I would've bought both consoles if they were readily available, but the Raspberry Pi is a better option anyway. I think Nintendo shot themselves in the foot here. I got eBay scammed with a fake HeartGold copy that turned out to be an R4 clone with a bunch of built in emulators, so I kind of just roll with that now. It still runs fine on my New 3DS XL. I had something similar for my DS Lite. It worked pretty well, but the edges of the screen got cut off.

Stumbled upon one a week ago, okay.... it was at my work and I scumbagged it. Okay, I tried to be as legit as possible... they were out on the floor, I waited until my first break, THEN I got it. So it's not like I hid them or anything...
Anyway, dropped a bunch of other games on it and am now in the midst of giving Chrono Trigger my first go-through to see what all the hype was about. I gotta admit, the hype is real. I'm still pretty early in the game, but it may become my go-to for trying to get people into RPG games as it doesn't overwhelm you with too many options and the story keeps going forward.
Although, full disclosure, it's not exactly a blind playthrough as I already knew about the Chrono doll and what the "right" decisions to make at the Fair were.

you may have noticed this thread disappeared for a bit, and a bunch of posts missing now.
DO NOT TALK ABOUT EMULATORS ON THIS BOARD.
PERIOD.
It happens again this thread is toast and I will hand out warnings. It's written plain as day in the rules.

I decided to test the one that I brought for my brother out by playing Star Fox 2.
And I'll have to agree with the critics who slagged it off as its not very good.

Ya, I was pretty excited for it but it is not very good. Star Fox? Lots of fun. Star Fox 64? Great fricken' game but somehow Star Fox 2 was pretty shit

Star Fox 2's inclusion was just a collector's grab. At this point, Nintendo has become experts in trolling collectors.
There's a reason it was never released proper and was just re-worked into Star Fox 64, there wasn't enough to work with to make a game that was on par with the first Star Fox. In the end, it worked out for the best with Star Fox 64.

I got to play the leaked Star Fox 2 beta awhile ago and it's interesting as a piece of gaming history since you get to see how the game eventually evolved into the excellent Star Fox 64. But it was rough around the edges and not very good.

Yeah I have a feeling the excuse of the snes is dead was more so they didn't just go well it is canceled because it's not good.
I mean there was a Kirby game that came out really late in the snes run.

I mean there was a Kirby game that came out really late in the snes run. I think they just tried to get way too ambitious with the limited capabilities of the SNES. I think they saw something on the PSX or Saturn and were like "We can do that" and did not succeed

Something about sequels always says "bigger and better" but with the SNES's capabilities it could really only have been "the same or a little less."

The original Star Fox itself was a hell of an achievement for the console when you think about it.
I did like how games like Yoshi's Island used the Super FX chip too not to produce crude (but at the time very impressive) 3D graphics but massive 2D sprites and special effects.

In 98 iirc I got a Snes model 2 packed with Yoshis Island for around 60 bucks at TRU. Yoshi's Island is still my favorite Mario game. Grabbing a SNES classic mostly cause I had Genesis back during the 16 bit era. Didn't get a SNES until 95 when a buddy sold me his with FF3,SMW and Ultraman. Even now I have under 15 SNES games. The SNES classic will be handy for the next roadtrip.

Yoshi's Island is almost 25 years old and is still one of the most beautiful looking games to ever exist.

Also I wished that instead of Star Fox 2 Nintendo could put something like Chrono Trigger or Harvest Moon.

I do wonder if Starfox 2 would have got more polish if it was properly released, instead of being done enough here. Still, I am kinda happy about it, because as much affection I have for the Star Fox franchise, I am really, really goddamn bored of the first game's story being retold again, and again, and again. So, a couple of new characters, etc, is a little welcome. I am a little curious if this means the game will take place in any sort of canon or not.
I am not entirely sure if quality would have been what kept it from getting released. I am more inclined to think the reason was that the 3D nature of the franchise meant that it made more sense to make the jump to the N64 like it did, sooner rather than later, rather than having a SNES game trying trying for a 3D look versus the 64's impending launch. The stronger the contrast between the SNES and the N64, the better for selling the new console, rather than muddling the message.

Honestly I can't but think its a case of column a and column b with both the game being not good and Nintendo figuring that the N64 would be a better fit. Because yeah why release a sub par game on a aging underpowered system when you can wait a year or so and release a much better game on a far more powerful console.

Who is still having problems attaining one of these devices? Seems stock levels are horrible across the country for me and they sold out within minutes of arrival.
