I think the show is still pretty good. Not classic like the first 9 or 10 years, but they still sprinkle some good stuff in.

I'd wanted a Simpsons movie since I was a kid, and I know it was in development for a while but I found the story really underwhelming for there finally being a Simpsons movie. It was focus grouped to death, apparently. For those who have the time, this is a good look at the show's fall, and what made it so special in the first place: deadhomersociety.com/zombiesimpsons/The Simpsons Movie that wasn't is something that needed to be explored. Marge having the ominous warning, flaming mummies, & Mr. Burns controlling the town more so then usual were stuff I want to know about. Anyway, I've been thinking about the "embracing rich culture" aspect, and that's the worst thing about the show. Early on, the idea of becoming famous was deconstructed to how its very miserable & unfulfilling. "Bart Gets Famous" & "Radioactive Man: The Movie" are two of them. Interesting to note that "Lisa Goes Gaga" looks almost like the ill-fated Prince project that Mike Reiss discussed. The difference would be that, unlike the actual episode where the celebrity shows up & its the greatest thing ever, in the proposed version, Leon Kompowski (the guy who thought he was Michael Jackson) would come back thinking he's Prince, and people would reject it again, but then decide to live the lie because it was interesting.

Now as I have been asking all along since the deal was finalized...do you think Disney can somehow save the show? One can say they gave Star Wars a shot in the arm, though YMMV there.

Lisa and Marge will get makeovers to look more attractive and Homer will get hair plants and diet. Cheaper vo actors and finally change that iconic theme. The Doug campaign.

Honestly, it's been falling because no TV show should be telling stories for 30 years in this day and age.

Honestly, it's been falling because no TV show should be telling stories for 30 years in this day and age. I've often been of the opinion that most television shows shouldn't run longer than 100 episodes, mainly because: how many more stories can you possibly tell with the exact same set of characters that you haven't already told by then, especially when there isn't a progressing storyline? The Simpsons did okay going past that since they had a lot of groundbreaking story ideas and a wide array of interesting characters that could interact with the Simpson family, but that didn't stop a lot of didn't-they-already-do-this from happening. How many times did we have to see a Homer and Lisa episode that started with "We don't have anything in common", and ended with "We still don't have anything in common, but we love each other anyway"? Or all the episodes that involved Homer getting a new job, only to still somehow end up right back at the powerplant by the next episode?

The real problem is it’s a cartoon now. The classic years they were “real” people who happened to be cartoons. Now, they are cartoons. It makes a huge difference.

I still love the joke where Homer names off every job he's ever had on the show before talking about his new job. Some of the best Simpsons jokes are the self-referrential ones, but they've had to lean on them so hard the last 15 years. And let's not forget the oldest trope, Marge is furious with something Homer did and is close to leaving him but doesn't. Hell, last season, she actually separated from Homer, from what I heard, but I think they actually got back together at the end of the episode.

Jesus, the show is on what? Season 29! Even if you think the show went down hill after season 15 or 20, whatever. No show is gonna be must see after that many years. I still watch and am happy with what I get. Is it perfect, no but what is?

They should never have started imitating the 'Family Guy' style of jokes, there's no coming back from that.
The Simpsons did give me my all-time favorite joke though, with "Billy Corgan. Smashing Pumpkins." "Homer Simpson. Smiling politely."
