I really don't like Abbey Laith's gear. Not a good look. Everything else is fine ok so far.

The only reason the Chinese and the Indian were in this was to pander to China and India. Shame. Expect a lot more from where that came from. $$$. I mean, Xia and Zeda were both signed from the China try-outs to be stars for that market but both of them have put in a lot of hard work and they got to show that here in the tournament, and they came off to me very impressive and worthy of being there. But in general this is supposed to be an international tournament so I don't really see how it's 'pandering' in that direction specifically but not in any other.

I respect your opinions, and you have a point when you say that they weren't so bad, but I still think the only reason they were in there was to pander to the two markets they are courting. I'll add Taynara Conti (Brazil) to that list.
Canada has ZERO representative in this. There were plenty of options. They have Valkyrie as an ALTERNATE. How about Nicole Matthews, Vanessa Kraven or again, LuFisto? They have Deonna Purazzo representing Italy as an Alternate, there's no Italian in the tournament. What make the Chinese/Indian/Brazilian more worthy of being in the tournament than Valkyrie and Purazzo if not their nationality and the push they are making to get in those markets?
At the end of the day, I know this is argument for argument's sake, and this has no repercussions in my life but still.

Seems like not an argument against fewer Chinese or Indian wrestlers, but rather fewer American wrestlers.

The tournament was designed a lot more to be a showcase for new NXT signees who happen to mostly be American with a couple of Chinese and an Indian in there for good measure. It's good for them to gain the experience but compared to the CWC where it felt like they went out and got at least two people to represent most big countries, it feels a bit lacking.

Canada's had a rough run with these tourneys... They only had one guy in the CWC in Tyson Dux and he was out in Round 1.

I just realized this tournament reminds me a bit of Street Fighter. Sage Beckett's gimmick reminded me of Rose from SF Alpha 3. Lacey Evans is a blonde American military hero, like Guile. Xia Li with her thick thighs and kick-based offense reminds me of Chun Li. Renee Michelle is of Native American heritage and dresses the part, like T. Hawk. I admittedly don't have analogues for every competitor. This is just a thing that hit me a few minutes ago.

At the end of the day, I know this is argument for argument's sake, and this has no repercussions in my life but still. To echo carp above me, I find it weird to say "Canada should be represented before China, Brazil, and India" when 17 of the 32 competitors are American. Which isn't to say any of the women who were there didn't at least to some degree deserve it or anything, but it's supposed to be an international tournament and to single out specifically the entrants from distinctly non-NA companies just sounds kinda suspect to me as a point to focus as the reason for the complaint. What Xia Li and Zeda have over Taya Valkyrie is a developmental contract and a year working for a company who now want to start putting them out there and see this platform as a way to do that. By all means, there's nothing about any of the women mentioned that wouldn't warrant a place in the tournament, and it would have been neat to see them in there, but you don't need to target specific women, especially the ones actually bringing some international representation to the tournament, as ones to resent for the reason that someone you wanted to see wasn't in there.

They also wanted Nixon in there for more UK talent. IMO, Ellering (as much as I like her), Gonzalez, and Marti or Miranda should have been replaced by Matthews, Deonna, and Kraven. No clue why Kraven received no offer.

Oh, I am 100% sure Marti only got in because Nixon Newell was injured. I don't see any other reason considering the match she had.

Based solely on the fact that her gimmick seems heavily hair metal influenced, Toni Storm reminds me of Poison.

That's what they WANT you to think! Well, her match with Ripley was fun at least. But yeah, weird to think that Marti was a first ballot pick. It makes sense because she was on TV and people would recognise her but still.

Marti has a personality and she stands out in a crowd, like I said, I noticed her. But yeah, the match was nothing special and she was rough.
Might be better suited to be a valet.
And yeah, I guess a couple of the Americans could have been sacrificed to be have Deonna (Who is really American anyway, Italian-American) and a Canadian.
I've known Vanessa Kraven since she was a teenager coming to the shows. Heh, maybe the next time they do one of these.

This is my first time watching (episode 3 is currently on the Network). That's an... interesting finish to the Toni Storm match.

I must be way out of the loop because I'm just finding out now that they aired 4 episodes already. I dunno if I'll like the binge format for this.
