I can't wrap my head around why Spacey would add the fact he's gay in his message if he didn't intend for it to be a deflection. Was there not one person in his life, whether an agent or PR rep or even the pool boy, he could've consulted before crafting his response? It's incredibly frustrating, disappointing, and disheartening, both as a fan of Spacey's work and as someone who has had difficulty in the past dealing with certain thoughts and feelings. To see someone trivialize something so important as a "Hey, look over here!" gesture is really quite upsetting. Like, even in the most benefit of the doubt way of looking at it, it'd be like "Well, this is the inevitable followup question, so-" but I don't think Spacey is that naive. It also isn't like he has been in a hurry to set the record straight, so to speak, before now, so it isn't like he'd pick now of all times to want to be clear if he didn't have additional motive in doing so.

f***ing hell.
Now I can’t watch Se7en, The Usual Suspects, LA Confidential without thinking about what he did.
Sorry for sounding selfish. It’s not the worst thing by far when awful shit like this happens. The three above films are personal favourites, and now they are stained with his presence in them.

He allegedly made a gross pass at a minor. And when he was shut down he stopped.
He didn't deny it. Knew it looked bad so he tried to change the headlines to a positive one.
At this point calling him a scumbag or cancelling shows and ending careers is a litle much.
He did not rape someone and use being gay as an excuse to do it.
He could have denied this and nothing else, would have came out. He owned up to the possibility it could have happened and tried to spin it into a positive. Bad move? Yeah.
Do I understand it? Also,yeah.
In any event im glad I never started house of cards since it's apparently without an ending.

Coming out and saying your gay is not the same as being a potential pedophile. He didn't deny he made an advance at a little boy and since he isn't denying it he deserves all the shit storm he is getting. Once again he tried to deflect the story of making an advance on a TEENAGER because he is gay. That's a no-no.

He allegedly made a gross pass at a minor. And when he was shut down he stopped. Allegedly, he physically prevented a minor from leaving the house, then physically picked him up and took him to a bedroom. Then he got on top of the boy on the bed until the boy was able to squirm out and talk his way out. The minor never consented. The events taking place were something he didn't know how to respond to. He never agreed, yet Spacey still physically wouldn't let someone leave and when he wasn't making any progress, he took the next step. It's a little more than "he stopped when the minor shut him down". Making a pass at someone isn't using your force to bring them to a bedroom and then force yourself on them. A pass is usually an inappropriate comment or inappropriate touch. This went beyond that. This is the definition of attempted rape.

Spacey's "It's because I've kept my personal life private" statement was so off the mark I can't believe he thought that's what the issue was. No Kevin, you're an actor who's worked on Broadway for 30 years. No one cares or is surprised that you're gay. The issue is you attempted to rape a 14 year old.

I'm utterly baffled by what his intentions of coming out were. For people to go "Oh? Well that makes it okay then I guess"?

Like the drunk thing was never gonna be a 'good' excuse, but if his statement had been: "I don't remember that happening because I was drinking, but I'm horrified and I apologize if that occurred, it was out of character and..."
That at least would have been better.

That at least would have been better. Agreed. Wording is important and he still would have been in hot water but their would have some forgiveness. He essentially brushed it off like so what or more so the important story is that he's coming out and not this alleged incident with a minor Of course there could always be more allegations which could be why his statement wasn't stronger but one would think someone of his fame and stature would have access to a lawyer to help him word these things more carefully.

That at least would have been better. Pretty much. The way he acted so flippant about it and then added the "oh I'm gay, btw" at the end was pretty scummy. Even if Rapp's accusations were complete BS, Spacey's reaction does him absolutely no favor.

I think he thought he'd get hi-fives or something for stating what everyone already knew anyway and forget about the allegation.

I love when people play the, "I was drunk/high" card to justify behavior. You were still you, you were f***ed up, not body snatched.

Maybe it's because I'm not a movie fan, but other than hearing his name, I honestly don't know anything about Spacey.
This is shady, though.
