I watched it. I liked it. Don't get what the uproar is about, although I have some idea "bla bla bla, black characters, bla bla bla, not cannon, bla bla" Looking forward to the next episode. Pretty much my thoughts too. So excited to see each new episode

20 million dollars. 20 million dollars, per episode! and this is what we get? I'll admit that does look pretty janky, but as much as has been said about the budget of the show, it's still relatively low budget for a production of its scale. For comparison's sake, an hour of your average effects-heavy big studio movie costs about $80-100 million, and even then you get a few effects shots that look like shit.

PLus the show as a whole looks great. One bad FX shot doesn't hurt the show to me. Agreed. It's like focusing on the badly-composited shot of Mark Ruffalo's head in the Hulkbuster suit and ignoring the fact that every other effects shot in Infinity War looks great. Rings of Power definitely has a few issues that I hope get worked out as the show progresses, but how it looks really isn't one of them.

This show is at it's best when we're with Elrond, Durin and Disa.
By far the highlight. Durin is great.

Can we get a Durin and Disa spinoff? They're both amazing.

Ok, and I have to say --- isn't the Balrog meant to be unbelieveably deep down? Like miles and miles--the Dwarves dug too deep. That thing in this is like, what, 100 meters? And not even really buried--like the dwarves could peer over the ledge and see it lurking there. This show is very badly written.
I love Elrond and the Dwarves--brilliant, focus on them and it'd be great. I also enjoy Adar and the Orcs--he is very interesting. The Harfoots are a mixed bag--they're actually quite horrible people really. But Nori and Poppy are sweet, and we need more Poppy singing.
But I still don't give a flying toss about Galadriel. Here character is a mess. I mean, this is a person who went on a one-woman crusade to slaughter all the orcs and told Adar she was going to kill every orc. Then tells Theo not to think like that.
There's also zero tension because we know who is gonna survive---why do a fake-out death for Isildur, we know he ain't dead. And god the plot armor must be made of mithril. Plot armor is one of my biggest pet hates--nothing takes me out of a show more than when everybody who has a major role survives along with a few nameless and nervous-looking mooks who know they're next while everybody else dies. Every credited actor survived the explosion--like come on, kill somebody important! Kill Bronwyn or whatever her name is, or the elf whose name I forgot.
Also the Mordor reveal was pretty crap too. I mean, him saying it would have been stupid and cheesey too, but they somehow went with the even cheesier option

I'm really curious where you got the impression the balrog is shallow? They've stated multiple times they found the mithril in the old mines that were so deep nobody goes down there anymore. Then from there they dig to bust into the mithril chamber. Then from there they are at the top and it shows multiple times that it's huge and it goes way far down. Then again it shows the leaf falling thru multiple large chasms until it finally hits bottom. I ain't arguing with your other points because I agree on most of it to varying degrees. But this notion the balrog is shown as being shallow is baffling to me. Perhaps there's something I've missed? You know something... it started as a joke but I'm half starting to wonder if Disa isn't under the influence of Sauron. She's really pushing buttons to make "Durin's Bane" happen. Either that or she's just about the most supportive and best wife ever. It's kinda funny how the knife's edge between supportive and destructive is being shown.

I don't know if that is just supposed to be a nod to Lord of the Rings, but if that Balrog actually does anything besides go back to sleep it is wayyyyy too early. But the timeline has been screwed with completely anyway, so I don't know anymore. (This mithril is magic stuff is totally a show invention I think, as well) Uruk. I like the speech about how great the Harfoots are at sticking together when they will like take the wheels off someone's cart when they sprain an ankle. Look, tanking an ash cloud has a way of bringing you to your senses. Though I'm not sure why they f***ed off on their own instead of helping anyoneSince they are both non-canonical characters, they certainly should be on the chopping block at some point. I can shut my brain off and enjoy the show for the most part, but that really irritated me. Literally spelling it out like that.

Worst case scenario prediction: We get a love triangle between Galadriel, Halbrand (actually Sauron, who helps Celebrimbor forge the rings under this disguise instead of Annatar for some reason), and a very much still alive Celeborn.

I hate you for putting this into my head because it's so absurd yet it's plausible enough for this show that I can't just say "lol no" either.

I saw a comment in a discussion on this show to the effect of "I'd say 'that's stupid' but that's not a relevant constraint here."

Despite a couple of questionable things, I enjoyed the season on the whole.
I thought both reveals became very obvious as we got closer to the finale.

Overall, I enjoyed, but it was badly written at times---and Galadriel was an awful character.
But it had enough positive about it that I enjoyed it. It was beautifully shot. Well-casted for the most part. I love Elrond and Durin. There were enough mysteries --- who is Sauron, who is the Stranger etc to keep me hooked. And though I called Halbrand being Sauron from the start, the revelation was done really well.
Going forward, I'd like to see Durin, Elrond and the Dwarves given more of a role. Galadriel taking a backseat (She is just a badly written and not only boring, but annoying character) and see more of Middle Earth--which I think we will with the Stranger and Nori's journey.

My thing with Galadriel is the strange mix of "she's ancient, wise and powerful" and "young, naive, brash and kinda dumb" at the same time. Feels like they needed to take another editing pass or three on her story before filming started. Now I hope her story takes a back seat to get the better Nori-Stranger and Elrond/Durin/Disa stories more time to shine.

Everything great except for some seriously questionable writing, which seems to be the case far too often.
That, and if you care about deviating too much from the lore this show must drive you absolutely insane.
My biggest annoyance was Celebrimbor, one of the greatest Elven craftsman, needing to be told by a human about what sounds like the most basic principles of metallurgy. I don't know if it was just written that way to be dumbed down for the audience?
That, and the forging of the rings felt very rushed.
