It should be noted that not all protective orders are due to violence. Very often in the cases of wealthy couples who split up, it is done to keep one of them from having access to the other's (aka the actual "rich" one) property until a court can decide who owns what.
I want to really, really, really stress that I am not trying to downplay what may be abusive situation; it may very well be. Until there's more details, I can't personally make any sort of judgment call.
