I just watched a documentary about this unreleased film. You end up feeling really bad about the cast as they truly believed that the film was going to be released. At least the bootleg market has given the film a new life.

The funny thing is that it's way better than the other Fantastic Four movies. Yes it's cheap and unfinished but there's a ton of heart to it and the actors worked their asses off.

it was actually pretty good and apart from the cardboard effects it's pretty much under appreciated

It's amazing that the Thing costume actually is probably my favorite of all the incarnations, zipper and all.

At least the bootleg market has given the film a new life. from what I remember the "it was never going to be released" was an urban legend. and that while it was originally planned on being released but Avi Arad on behalf of Marvel basically bought the original prints for a few million dollars for fear that such a low budget movie would cheapen the brand. It is the best Fantastic Four movie to date... and that kinda says something as it's still not very good.

It's the best F4 movie.

I want to watch that documentary.
Thing and Dr. Doom costumes are surprisingly good for as low budget as the whole thing is. They're not spectacular or anything, but they look like what they're supposed to be.

I thought it did get released, but only in France. If it had come out and not done too badly then maybe there wouldn't have been the need to make the other versions.

I remember seeing trailers for it when I rented movies as a kid. And I was hyped as shit to see it. And then...nothing. 😞

I found a bootlegged copy of it at a convention I went to a month and a half ago. I was tempted to get it, but didn't.

I got a question, who owns the right to this movie? Let say Disney did buy 20th Century Fox, could they released the movie if they wanted too.

Avi Arad bought it on behalf of Marvel and ordered to have all prints destroyed. Obviously someone made bootleg copies of it as it'd been on the convention scene for years... but the master copies are likely gone.

Ah, the good old days of Midtown Comics in Manhattan still carrying bootleg VHSs...this was way before DVD box sets caught on, so I got lots of TV series I remembered this way too. And fanmade trailers/movies. This is how I got Batman vs. Predator. And an adaption of the death of Gwen Stacy. And the fake Grayson trailer with Kimberly Page. Yeah what's sad is this IS probably the best F4 movie to date. Until I found that the 1994 cartoon really picked up second season, I would have also said that the original other-media form, the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, was still the best.

While not the best I enjoyed the FF cartoon that CN aired in 2005 or so. The one with The Thing with a 4 spraypainted on his chest.
