Was thinking about thinking about this.
I remember having a poster back then that had the title and the dates when they was coming out. I know as a kid even with how many times i seen the movies on tape this was still special to see them in theaters.

Yes. I worked at the theater in town that got those, and I must say, even with the extra CGI crap (which, I will argue that the best of the three was EMPIRE, as the bit of tweaking they did there really helped EMPIRE), seeing those on the big screen F***ing rocked, and I say that as only a moderate SW fan.

Box Office for each one
New Hope: 138 Million ESB: 67 million ROTJ: 45 million
No telling how many of million's they did on VHS later that year.
But 138 million just shows how much interest was still in the brand

Yep and because I worked in a Cinema then I have a complete set of posters for them, including the trilogy poster with “three reasons why they build movie theatres” on it.

Yeah of all the edits on the 97 versions Empire is the best one It's really too bad the box office kind of tapered off after NEW HOPE. EMPIRE and JEDI looked even better on the big screen (and on brand new film prints no less). I ended up watching EMPIRE on opening day by my self, which was great, but still.... The people that only went to see NEW HOPE missed out.

I did, and that's part of the reason why I consider the Special Editions the definitive versions.

Yes, I was too young to see the original trilogy in the cinemas. Well I wasn’t born yet for the first one and less then a year old for Empire.
But I grew up loving the films and I loved that I got a chance to see them on the big screen. Even over looked the horrid cgi extra scenes/additions in eps IV and VI .

Not to encourage juvenile delinquency, but yeah back in the day we skipped school, maybe partook in some substances not exactly legal at the time, and enjoyed these movies Just like our parents did back in their day.

Yes absolutely. I saw each one the day it came out.
Apparently, I had already seen them all in theaters (an early 80's re-release of the original is according to my parents the first movie I ever saw but I don't remember it) and I'd seen them on VHS tons of times, but in the theater while stoned with my best friend was a fun experience.
I really liked ANH and Empire, but the special edition of Jedi was as terrible then as it is now, and that was even before the ghost of Hayden Christiansen.

Yup. I was born in 86, so original runs weren’t happening for me. Saw all 3 re-releases with my dad in theatres. Because of the SE I’ve seen every Star Wars movie in theatres

Went to see A New Hope with two friends. Theater was so full that ushers were setting up folding chairs in the aisles. We got our money back and went to the bar instead. I went two weeks later and saw it by myself.

I didn't. For whatever reason, at 18 I was like: "I have these at home, why would I pay money to see them?"
Cut to a couple of weeks ago, and I went to see Casablanca on the big screen for its 75th anniversary.

Saw all of them. And believe it or not, there was a time I thought the changes were cool. Obviously, most don't hold up today, but back then, it was like, "Wow, I get to see the same movies but they're different too!"

Obviously, most don't hold up today, but back then, it was like, "Wow, I get to see the same movies but they're different too!" most of the changes didn't bother me either... save for the extended dance number in Jabba's palace. I don't even remember the Greedo shooting first scene in theaters... I know it happened but somehow it never registered. Then again that scene never really bothered me (save for the terrible cg job when I watched it on TV.) like it did a lot of others.
