Now, I know Demon in a Bottle is taboo for the MCU. But I swear there was an edict for no or fewer realistic weapons and violence? Is there any word out that would confirm or deny such. uh... also as I said Disney pretty much leaves Marvel alone, and Disney has put adult stuff out in the past like Literally the entire View Askewniverse.

Winter Soldier straight up uses machine guns. I think that weapon rumor is false.

I don't think the Netflix shows are part of the MCU right?
I haven't been keeping up on them but they seem very separate in their own worlds.

They talk about the Battle of New York a bunch of times in Daredevil and Jessica Jones. They call it like "the incident" or something. Ben Ulrich had this on his wall as well

I think The Punisher series was the most gory Marvel entry I've seen besides Warzone.

People think Disney and they think "PG-only" when they have their fair share of R-rated films via subsidiary studios. Hell, the MCU isn't exactly all sunshine and lollipops (see: the Netflix shows and Punisher).
And while we haven't outright had "Demon in a bottle," Tony's gone on some serious benders in the MCU, hinting at his alcoholism.

It's not Netflix if I recall the details correctly but that its two different branches and heads of Marvel running each. With Feige leading the film division and some other dude leading the tv division. This may have changed recently but that's what I remember reading.

All of SHIELD have sidearms that they pull. Basically everyone in the Iron Man films uses guns, when they're not using a rip-off Iron Man suit. The only franchises that I think have really shied away from guns are the ones that don't really take place on Earth like the Thor films and the Guardians films, and Doctor Strange which is very magic-heavy.

Thor until recently with the Executioner

So Marvel's TV division still answers to Marvel Entertaiment, which is headed up by Ike Perlmutter. He's pretty well known to be a HUGE pain in the ass, so Kevin Feige basically begged Disney to split Marvel Studios away from Marvel Entertainment so that the movie division would report straight to Disney and not Perlmutter.

In particular, Ike Perlmutter is a huge cheapskate who values adhering to strict budgets over allowing creative freedom. Almost all of the problems experienced by directors in the first two Phases were down to Perlmutter's meddling. Also, he's still adamant that female superheroes don't sell, which resulted in Black Widow only getting around a third of the number of action figures released compared to the male Avengers, and he fought tooth and nail against a Captain Marvel movie. Inhumans was his baby, too.

I think the only ban on realistic weapons may be the cartoons, though Avengers: EMH did have realistic weapons.

The only ban that I can remember on realistic weapons in Marvel was the 90's cartoons, way before Disney bought Marvel. Not sure if that was an internal decision with the animation studio or Fox Kids' insistence. But that's why the 90's X-Men and Spidey cartoons had all these weird laser guns instead of more conventional weapons.
Also, Ike Perlmutter can eat a bag of dicks.

Where did this realistic weapons ban thing come from?
I can't think of a single MCU movie where a gun wasn't either seen or explicitly used.
