No. It took the crowd a bit to catch on, and even then they were still cheering him. I know 13 to 14 year old me was a bit dissapointed in his heel work being the most generic thing alive.

No lol. I mean there were people on this forum saying he didn't have a heel turn and it took them months to admit it. That's every CM Punk angle ever tho. Back when he was a twisted cult leader threatening Rey Mysterio's kids there were folks on here giving us their "If you think about it, Punk is really the face in this feud" essays. I think the difference is that back then it wa sjsut some internet users saying it,but he was still getting heel reactions. 2012 he was just uber-cheered no matter what

God no. The fans rather vocally shat on his heel turn and towards the end of it WWEs attempts to get people to boo him got progressively more pathetic and desperate.

Dude could have quite literally slit somebody's throat live on TV and drank the blood from the corpse, and he'd have still got cheered.

I find the whole “worst person ever” part of the run to be utterly hilarious in hindsight. Like, you could set your watch to Punk coming out to rundown the local hero.
“Oh, look! We’re in Memphis and here’s Jerry Lawler, returning from his near-fatal heart attack!”
“Now we’re in Oklahoma and good ol’ JR is in the ring!”
“Hey, now RAW is in Canada, and Bret Hart is here!”

Dude could have quite literally slit somebody's throat live on TV and drank the blood from the corpse, and he'd have still got cheered. See, I feel weird because I was pretty much the polar opposite at the time. Punk could have saved a bunch of puppies from a flaming bus, and I still wouldn't have cheered him over Cena. The vast majority of the rest of the audience did not want to boo Punk, because he was too charismatic and he had too much momentum behind him. However....simply from a 100% personal standpoint, I found Cena and Rock to be more charismatic, so I cheered them at the time. I wasn't blindly trying to go along with WWE's narrative. I just supported who I thought was cooler.

Man I love Punk. The guy was constantly changing his character and his look. It was amazing.

No, he mocked a guy having a heart attack and got cheered later that night.

Reading in the Roman thread about being the best in the world. Someone brought up the point that the crowd was ready to boo Punk by 2012? Is this really true though? I thought he was still pretty over and if anything, the heel turn deflated him completely. This person is wrong. It's not true.

I HATED his heel turn. No one, including myself wanted to boo him, which led to him resorting to the worst kind of heel tactics like insulting local sports teams or saying how he can’t wait to leave said town.

No lol. I mean there were people on this forum saying he didn't have a heel turn and it took them months to admit it. Oh man that was hilarious. Punk was cowering in the corner when Big Show attacked Cena, then after The Rock stepped in and chased off Big Show, Punk blindsided Rock and hit his finish on him. "Shades of Gray" "Austin-esque" "Tweener" I mean goddamn, everything Punk did was telegraphed to be a heel. Yes, the live audience didn't accept it because they still liked him, but that was not the intent that WWE had. So they proceeded to dial it up to 1100 once they realized the fans were still cheering him. Reminds me of the back and forth that went on when Enzo started going heel a few months ago, haha.

Dude could have quite literally slit somebody's throat live on TV and drank the blood from the corpse, and he'd have still got cheered. I don't think anyone would condone murder. A more believable statement would be along the lines of "Dude could literally backhand a fan and he'd still get cheered AND say the fan deserved it".
