Tryhard cliche heel Punk who still got cheers was hilarious. It really was. They couldn't have been more desperate if they had him end every promo with "Awww, come on guys, please boo me!"

I think the only worse heel turn that happened at that time was Ryback, the guy got a huge pop when he meat hooked Cena.

Dude could have quite literally slit somebody's throat live on TV and drank the blood from the corpse, and he'd have still got cheered. I don't think anyone would condone murder. A more believable statement would be along the lines of "Dude could literally backhand a fan and he'd still get cheered AND say the fan deserved it". More to the point, he backfisted the wrong fan.

At least WWE learned their lesson(turns on Smackdown, sees them setting up Daniel Bryan as the heel vs Shane McMahon).

Man I really wanted Cena/Punk/Rock at WrestleMania. It would have undoubtedly been better than Cena/Rock II. You could still have Cena getting his win back from Rock all the whilemprotecting Punk (the guy who was gonna stick around..) and continue that feud.

Unlike Ryback, Punk would have refused to go along with the "tapping out to Miz's leg kicks" thing (especially considering how much he hated Miz).

I still want to know what genius came up with the idea of having the guy who's meant to be your biggest heel stand in the crowd, with his title and with no security around him.

I HATED his heel turn. No one, including myself wanted to boo him, which led to him resorting to the worst kind of heel tactics like insulting local sports teams or saying how he can’t wait to leave said town. Exactly. Punks heel turn failed imo. He really had to become so over the top and it just didn't fit his character, unlike when he joined the nexus or when he was feuding with jeff hardy. At least Austins heel turn i could buy to a degree, even the comedy heel bully part of his character fit him 10x more better than punks deluded heel gimmick. Austin pulled it off a lot better. It wasn't the right time for Punk as he'd only just caught on fire less than a year ago, unlike austin who had pretty much played out his gimmick for three years.

In hindsight I didn’t mind the Punk turn and you could have easily made the Wrestlemania match a triple threat match. Getting Undertaker wasn’t a bad “consolation prize” but Rock/Cena 2 was not necessary at all. Should have stayed once in a lifetime Punk wanted to make it a Triple Threat, so that he could say he main evented WrestleMania. But yeah the Undertaker/Punk match was a good consolation prize. Even though it should've went on last. And, this is my opinion, Punk should've ended the Streak.

Its weird cause I always realized how first his heel turn was but didn't ever really think about the difference between Punks heel persona then and then his heel persona in 2012.
However, people kind of forget how early on in Punks turn it wasn't like this full on over the top heel act. I was just about to say "Punks other times as heel had him have a legitimate point of view", but then I realized he did early on in his 2012 heel run. The guy having to toil in the midcard as champion as part timers and...Johnny Ace main event PPVs.
Theres a point after the heel turn that I only noticed later on. A match where Cena and Punk are tag teams. There's some conflict, but they both do their part in winning. Punk goes to shake Cenas hand, and Cena just stares a while, and finally Punk is like "fine" and just leaves angry that Cena STILL wouldn't show him respect. I like to imagine in kayfabe that Cena could have shook Punks hand and maybe Punk wouldn't have spiraled down into this angry, bitter guy with a chip on his shoulder...

So I really WAS the only fan here who was more than happy to boo Punk's pretentious ass? Shit, I figured at least someone here could relate with how I felt during that period.
