Reading in the Roman thread about being the best in the world. Someone brought up the point that the crowd was ready to boo Punk by 2012?
Is this really true though? I thought he was still pretty over and if anything, the heel turn deflated him completely.

Nope, he had to resort to calling the fans jerks and insulting local sports teams just to get a little bit of heat.

Nope, they were still cheering him even in 2013 when he was in try hard heel mode.

Nope, they were still cheering him even in 2013 when he was in try hard heel mode. They went for the cheapest, seediest heat by having Punk dump what was ostensibly Paul Bearer's ashes onto a downed Undertaker, only for the whole thing to fall apart as the crowd screamed "CM Punk" in unison regardless. Like not even a smattering or a vocal pocket, but legit the whole crowd "shake the floorboards" chanting "CM Punk" as Punk scatter the remnants of Undertaker's 'father' on a defeated, deflated Undertaker. That said, I did like how Punk insisted on a transition period in his turn. He still tried to rationalize and be consistent with his BitW shtick before going full heel. It's a little thing that gets lost in the general shock factor of a heel turn, a lot just change character over night and give no second thought to the fact. The only other one I can think of is Rollins' slight moments of hesitation in his post-Shield beatdowns of Ambrose and how the other Shield boys didn't just forget the whole thing immediately.

That heel turn was the most hilarious thing ever. It was like the opposite of Roman Reigns, trying so hard to get Punk booed. Mocking Jerry Lawler's heart attack, pouring Paul Bearer's ashes all over himself, saying that women shouldn't be allowed to vote.

No. WWE never made him 'the guy' so Punk never had to feel that kind of backlash. His run was never perceived as something that held a 'more-deserving' star down.

Absolutely not. Nobody wanted to boo him and his try-hard heat getting was just depressing to watch.

I don't think there's anything he could do that could make the majority of people dislike him.
I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who did dislike him, during his run.

No lol. I mean there were people on this forum saying he didn't have a heel turn and it took them months to admit it.

CM Punk "Heel" was hilariously.
He could stomp a puppy and people would cheer him

No. He turned heel so he could lose the belt to Rock, and Big Match John could get his win back. I believe in his shoot he said Bryan would have won the belt and dropped it to Rock if Punk didn’t want to turn heel, which would have changed history dramatically most likely.
What’s funny is merch sales are always brought up when people mention Cena never turning heel, and yet Punk was turned heel at the peak of his merch selling days. For some reason, being universally cheered isn’t a very important thing for Vince anymore.

Vince is no better than your typical youtube commenter when it comes to argument He will cherry pick for what he wants and ignore when it is not useful for his opinion/idea.

No lol. I mean there were people on this forum saying he didn't have a heel turn and it took them months to admit it. Oh man that was hilarious. Punk was cowering in the corner when Big Show attacked Cena, then after The Rock stepped in and chased off Big Show, Punk blindsided Rock and hit his finish on him. "Shades of Gray" "Austin-esque" "Tweener" I mean goddamn, everything Punk did was telegraphed to be a heel. Yes, the live audience didn't accept it because they still liked him, but that was not the intent that WWE had. So they proceeded to dial it up to 1100 once they realized the fans were still cheering him.

People wanted to cheer the guy because they knew how transparent the inevitability of Rock/Cena 2 was and knew the real reason they were making Punk a heel. Nobody wanted any part of it, but Vince persisted because Vince.

Punk had to look like a Nazi while attacking Lawler, insulting the fans and then teaming with Heyman for people to believe he turned heel. From the jump though, like you said, he was telegraphed to be a heel. I don't get people lol.

In hindsight I didn’t mind the Punk turn and you could have easily made the Wrestlemania match a triple threat match.
Getting Undertaker wasn’t a bad “consolation prize” but Rock/Cena 2 was not necessary at all. Should have stayed once in a lifetime

No lol. I mean there were people on this forum saying he didn't have a heel turn and it took them months to admit it. That's every CM Punk angle ever tho. Back when he was a twisted cult leader threatening Rey Mysterio's kids there were folks on here giving us their "If you think about it, Punk is really the face in this feud" essays.

Hell no, I was still cheering Punk! He shouldn't have dropped the belt to Rock, that's for damn sure. Make the title match either a triple threat or do a Title VS Streak main event. Punk wins breaking The Streak but afterwards embraces Taker in respect, turning face, while Taker can either retire or take his usual break. This way we don't get the Lesnar backlash of Mania 30.
