So, I remember the instructions saying never leave your discs in the system if you're not playing them as it could damage the game/system, and I've followed that bit of wisdom for years, but this morning I remembered that that was for the Sega-CD, a system with a very different set-up and the guidance of 25 years ago.
Is it OK to leave discs in the system now if I know I'm coming home to play it again in a few hours/the next day? Do you?

The only time I had a disc-based system fail on me was the Xbox 360 with its red ring of death and there was no disc in there.
Maybe that was more true of the older systems where you had to put a disc on a spindle like the old Playstation, but I don't think it matters one way or another with more contemporary systems. Hell, I had a disc in my Wii for like a year without realizing it and it works fine.

Only time I ever had an issue was when my PS3's disc drive died and I still had a game in there. But yeah, I leave 'em in.

Yes, but only recently; the disc tray on my 360 can be temperamental, so by leaving the disc in I don't need to worry about the tray opening.

Yeah, I recall the warning being on my Sega-CD, the side-loader, and looking at the shape of it, the disc would be prone to a whole bunch of undesirable elements if just left idle.

I always leave one in the drive.
Only time I take one out when being done with it is if I'm moving the system somewhere else.

Yeah, my memory is that you shouldn’t leave a disc in when moving the system. In fact, my Black Ops on 360 got damaged when I left it in when moving the system. Never had an issue other than that with leaving discs in.

I usually leave it in the system. Until I take it out.
Actually on the current gen systems, so many of my games are Digital now, I couldn't even tell you if I have a disc in or not.

I always do. I remember having one system that I was extremely protective of and I took them out. But that fell by the wayside.

Never take them out unless I'm replacing them.

Last time I did, the door on the PS2 wouldn't open and so it ended up going to the dump (I assume) with a copy of SvR 08 stuck in it.

Yes, but only recently; the disc tray on my 360 can be temperamental, so by leaving the disc in I don't need to worry about the tray opening. Protip, especially if you have a fat 360, lie the system horizontal and give it a sharp tap on the top where the disc tray is, just as it's getting stuck ejecting. Should free it.

When my PS3 got the red light of death Bioshock was in it. It was fun taking the system apart.

Hehehe, thanks for the tip dude but I've used that method in the past as well! It didn't work every time but when it did I felt like The Fonz with a jukebox!

Not as much as I used to mostly because I only majorly buy digital games now but when I was, I used to leave a game I really loved playing at the time in it and didn’t have any issues.
