comicbook.com/gaming/2017/12/27/new-japan-pro-wrestling-video-game-coming-soon/The organization confirmed that a new video game is on the way, and while details haven’t been revealed as of yet, the official NJPW page indicates that a “video game announcement” will happen at 12:15 on January 3rd, 2018, during the Wrestle Kingdom 2018 Fan Festa. With the popularity of the Bullet Club here in the States I hope we get a US release. Obviously a completely new engine from what Wrestle Kingdom was will have to be made. Actually wish the Fire Pro franchise could have snagged the license. Also if it turns out to be a Japan-only release it will most likely stay on the PS4 which is unfortunate.

I'm not getting my hopes high to be honest.
This is probably for that horse racing game, a new mobile game, or some more stuff added to Tekken/Yakuza.
If it's for an actual NJPW 3D console game...Pepper will need new shorts (and a new meme). Especially if it used the AKI engine. Hell, even the Day Of Reckoning/WK engine like you said.

I want DDT to get a video game. I don't even know what the game mechanics of controlling a ladder vs a dachshund would be, but I know I need it.

A New Japan exclusive or other puroresu companies too? Although if we're being honest the other companies are in bad shape or are indies.

Hopefully it's released in the US as well, and hopefully it's not Playstation exclusive.

PS4 is Region Free, though, so that's not so bad. I'd say there's a 99% it doesn't get a US release, though, thanks to music licensing. I don't know what Japanese label Yonosuke Kitamura is signed to, though.

It'd be nice to get another bit time wrestling game on the market, especially if it can take advantage of the PS4 being region free, but I'm not going to hold my breath on it too much. They're doing OK with the mobile games, and we already have Fire Pro to carry on. It would be a nice surprise though, and with NJPW's resurgence, it may be the time to strike.

This really could be anything. I remember SNK having this month long build for a new Fatal Fury game for it to end up being...a Pachinko machine. Hell maybe they'll even take that comedy horse racing game and port it to the arcades.

I hope it'll be something worthwhile. That, and I hope they get an action figure deal. They cannot compete with WWE in terms of omnipresence, but games and toys would definitely help follow up the success t-shirts have been for them.
(Though, I worry Funko may get in the way of that, depending how whatever contract Bullet club has with them would be structured)

The fact WWE can get Funko going at all while having their actual big toy company deal also speaks to the narrowness of the exclusivity deal with Mattel.

Yeah, in terms of those things, Funko is more categorised as vinyl figures so aren't really "toys" in the same way action figures are which is why you're less likely to see them in toy stores (even though my local toy store does have them but still). So if they were to do a deal with a manufacturer, they probably wouldn't get in the way unless they've done a badly put together contract.

So if they were to do a deal with a manufacturer, they probably wouldn't get in the way unless they've done a badly put together contract. Also, you usually only see exclusivity in the realm of action figures and things like Lego where there are direct competitors and whatever is being licensed out is done along the very narrow band of their competitors; Mattel is most concerned with blocking out companies like Hasbro, and Lego is more concerned with blocking other block building brands. DC comics has their action figure line and the Funko deal, but then in terms of collectible statues they've also got a whole slew of companies that put out a lot of broad sorts of stuff; I've got stuff on my shelf from like four different companies that's all Batman-related stuff. Once you get into the collectible market there's no real exclusivity or fear of competition, because all those companies are working different styles and at different price points. Action figures are the only things anyone is worried about.
