I'm pretty glad I was wrong about this. Gameplay wise you can't get much better than Fire Pro and hopefully the DLC wrestlers will have unique moves that spice things up a bit. The story mode sounds awesome and I look forward to what they do with it. I think in this case working on a smaller project is better

I actually think this is really smart. Making a game at the best of times is difficult considering you have to get an experienced team, figure out what made other games work, improve on those ideas for 2018, make sure they suit the company you’re doing it for etc. Associating with Fire Pro solves most of that because the game’s already there. The engine suits how NJPW does their matches, the brand is known in Japan and with how NJPW is going in America, getting those guys on the console version of the game at launch helps give more buzz towards a game that, to date, has only had one official guy. Also, FP doesn’t seem to be tied to NJPW outside of the people being put in so it’s not like it’s a full on game and it’ll allow them to potentially do deals with other promotions for talent. Like, with how Stardom’s been growing, I could easily see a DLC pack with talent from there. Saw this briefly on the nL stream and if someone gets a translation of it, I’m THERE!

Even if it doesn't really feel like it, the WWE 2k games are big money projects with a major publisher behind them, and the level of production behind it is built on the demand and worldwide brand recognition of WWE. New Japan doesn't have that, and to make their own game would have to scale things back tremendously, into the realms of mobile games like people here were dreading earlier in the thread. It's much healthier for their growth to not have to focus on anything of major substance and instead look for partnerships with other companies; this is a bigger step toward something than the Tekken deal, but it's the same sort of idea. There's infinitely less risk of getting burned or failing when you partner up with an established name for cross-promotion and use it instead to get some presence and push your popularity. New Japan may not reach a lot of new eyes with this deal because Fire Pro is kind of a niche product, but there's still some people who will happen upon it or might act on a curious interest based on it, and even if not, it's giving something to the fans. The last thing anyone should want is for the New Japan edition of TNA's failed attempt at a video game.

Really? I just want something easier to play than Fire Pro but less broken than WWE 2K.
At this point, I'm just gonna give up...

At least the TNA game led to the much better WWE All-Stars (just as far as being a decent game goes, not being a proper wrestling sim, since it wasn't). Obviously, that engine wouldn't lend itself well to NJPW well at all, though.

So freakin excited for this because this means more revenue going to the Fire Pro team and more additions in the future...I have played since Six Man Scramble on the Saturn and was first day early access on the new game...I am pretty glad this is taking place and even though a 3D engine would have been flashy the Fire Pro engine is intense...The only thing I am worried about is the PC/Steam version being left behind in these DLC packs as I do not own a PS4.

They demoed it at the event on a laptop, I assume Steam will get it.

Yeah this is the smartest decision they could’ve made.
New Japan’s audience is NOT big enough to justify a full on brand new game being produced right now.

I actually bought Fire Pro due to this, so at least one sale out of it for them.

Thinks its also going to be for The PC as well Yeah the game is already out right now and has been for awhile on early access via steam but I hope the NJPW comes out to it as DLC...The fact that it was previously mentioned that the demo was from a laptop helps the case but they could have just been using workshop edits as well...
