It had to be him, AJ or Okada.

I know these lists are meaningless but Reigns and Cena over Okada really?

Hard to argue with #1 except between him and Styles, but yeah, I don't get Cena and Reigns over Okada either.

That’s awesome, although I am shocked SI is awarding something like this at all.

I got a laugh out of Omega/Juice being one of Omega's best matches of the year. I mean the G1 match? That was a routine 12 minute match that was only notable for the shock upset. I think they mean the rematch from Destruction, which was a great match but still probably like Omega's 10th best match of the year.

Well deserved, though the lack of Okada being higher and Naito is suspect. Okada is having the reign of a century and Naito is on the cusp of smashing through the ceiling.

Not having Naito is more than suspect, it pretty much disqualifies the list for me. Obviously an American list is going to lean more on American wrestlers and it certainly does. But it has indy wrestlers like Keith Lee and Matt Riddle, who many casual/WWE American fans don't even know. How can you cannot have Naito, who makes regular international appearances and is moving quite a bit of merch through Hot Topic? I would say outside of Omega, he is the star in New Japan who has transcended the Japanese market the most. As far as Okada, he should at least be three, even in a list made in the US. Since the list even admits to using "wrestlers impacts in the U.S." as part of it's criteria, I can understand putting AJ and Kenny above him.

Okada is too low, and Naito should be on there but other then that I don't hate the list. I'd just move things around a bit, but can't really argue with most of the picks. Using only guys from their list and hon. mentions I'd go:
Omega Okada AJ Naito Braun Cena Reigns KO Cody Riddle/Lee (one has to fall off the list, and I can't decide which)

Other than Pentagon and Fenix perhaps, no Hispanic talent really did anything this year. AAA continues to be a mess whilst CMLL puts out dull and uninspired shows.

It's him, or AJ. No contest. They just get wrestling.

At first I kept hearing on twitter that the main complaint was Okada was 6th and Naito was an honorable mention, I sorta assumed the top of the list was going to be entirely WWE guys, which is fine because SI is a mainstream mag focused on an American audience/wrestling. But having Omega be 1 and Okada be 6th is truly...bizarre, almost unexplainable

To paraphrase a recent WhatCulture video, as much as any other guy is touted as being "The Guy", Kenny is undoubtedly the hottest act around and "The Guy" right now in the wrestling world.

Not my personal preference but no problem with anyone picking Omega. That list is pretty limited tho.

Other than Pentagon and Fenix perhaps, no Hispanic talent really did anything this year. AAA continues to be a mess whilst CMLL puts out dull and uninspired shows. It really depends how you look at it. English language pro wrestling news/analysis that looks beyond WWE has generally grown out of Dave Meltzer, and still focuses on a certain concept of match quality/workrate that isn't necessarily all that relevant outside that bubble of fandom. Psycho Clown vs. Dr Wagner Jr. at TripleMania was the most watched live wrestling match in North America since Hogan vs. Andre in the '80s. Taken in isolation, it wasn't a very good match, but it's arguably more significant than anything that happened in WWE this year. It's certainly more significant than the one thing from that show that actually got traction in smarkdom, a woman folks know from TNA getting shoot injured by a woman folks know from Lucha Underground.

In terms of coverge and plaudits even I can't argue he deserves to be top 2.
