You can get away with mentioning a name in a historical context but WWE would get sued if they actually marketed the group as Bullet Club since NJPW owns the name.

I remember that time where in the span of a month WWE C&Ded the Young Bucks, fired Jimmy Jacobs for an Instagram selfie, sent Roman Reigns to do a radio interview talking up how people need to be more original and stop just ripping off what WWE does, and then tried to advertise AJ/Finn as "two leaders of 'the notorious club'". Their problems with not being able to make up their mind run way deeper than this and into 'I want have my cake, eat my cake, and also to steal your cake' territory.

Their previous attempts to weaken the Bullet Club's popularity failed, so now they're playing the angle of "We have THE TRUE Bullet Club". It's interesting.

It seems odd to me that they would do this whole thing now, with the actual Bullet Club, especially the cast of "Being the Elite" garnering unheard of popularity and praise.
It just seems like making too much mention of the Bullet Club, no matter how much they dance around saying the actual name, is going to cause at least a small segment of fans to look deeper into the whole thing, thus leading them directly to NJPW.
Throwing an actual version of the Club on television kinda reeks of desperation, in my opinion. They're basically piggybacking the success the Bullet Club currently has. Sure, they have 2 former leaders and another founding member, but they never reached the kind of heights that the BC has under the Elite.
I guess to me, this just comes off as less "Hey, we have the REAL stars of the Bullet Club", and more "Hey, we have some, too!" I think the fact that AJ is nowhere near this whole thing is telling, too.

Maybe they figured out the best way to ruin rival Bullet Club. Acknowledge it as their own thing and try to make it good. That’s how they’ve ruined everyone else. DDP, Broken Matt, Baylee main roster, Lex Luger, and the list goes on and on and on in a wall of text.
But yeah, brilliant. Kill it by doing what you always do: think you can make it better and “cool” and being naive about your own incompetence to what people actually like, Vince and company.

In many ways, the success of the Bullet Club is an indictment of the WWE.
These guys are succeeding wildly because they’re presenting something cooler than the company that has (in context) virtually unlimited resources.
The fact that a 71-year-old man still makes decisions for a company that likes to think of itself as pop culture-savvy is mind-boggling. But what’s even worse is that on top of not knowing what your fans want, you don’t care.
Trying to piggyback off of the popularity of the Bullet Club while simultaneously fighting them with C+Ds is so petty.
