It has been 3 years of constant booing. Cena was the #1 merch seller and had a lot of fans.
Roman still mainly gets booed and has not really put up the merch numbers Cena did, and has gone long periods of not being #1
Cena sold so much and connected with a large portion with the audience. So not turning Cena made sense. But this simply does not apply for Roman.
The only reason he has not turned heel or dropped out of the main event scene seems to be because Vince likes him.
Heck, it is even obvious Vince has used him to troll the audience with his promos a few times.
Why on earth would you do this and still portray him as a face? I don't get it.

Probably because it kinda worked with Cena. I mean eventually.
But Roman's not doing the Merch numbers that Cena is... and from all accounts when he was #2 on the list #3 was right behind him.

He thinks if he keeps ramming Roman down everyone's throats, eventually he'll just slide into the slot.

I think he's still really scared if he pushes a wrestler with naturally occuring reactions they will leave like Lesnar did. If he pushes the archetyple company man Cena, and now Roman that isn't going to happen.

Like those who like pineapple on pizza, it is best for the mind to not think about it.

They let him be the rapper, and he got red hot. Cena got to the top spot because the fans demanded it. From the moment he got the rapper gimmick till about November 2005 (Batista's rise), Cena may have been the hottest guy in the company.

The Cena push had never really been done before, so at least it had that going for it.
But, when you try to force a dynamic that only happened by accident with another guy when trying to force a complete different dynamic didn’t work, that seems pretty tricky.

Vince thinks that Reigns is the one who can carry the company for the next 5 or 6 years. Who else can do it?

Cena became #1 thanks to fan support. Roman was pushed to #1 and told to have the fans support him. It's backward.

I’m just about certain that Sika saved Vince from drowning once and Vince became a blood brother of the Anoa’i family.
More seriously it’s Vince/WWE’s fault he’s not the man, once they went so heavy handed that he was going to be cornball Cena part 2 he was hurt a lot, he’s recovered a fair bit and they’re booking him better lately by letting him kick ass and not saying as much dumb stuff.....then again they let him get promo bodied by Cena so who knows what they’re trying to accomplish here.

Because it’s a joint Triple H/Vince production and they aren’t gonna let that sink.

Even then, it didn't work THAT well with Cena considering ratings were dropping and such, albeit much slower than in recent times.

I think Vince realizes his time as the head of the WWE is coming to an end and Roman is his last desperate "I can still do this" death gasp.

Thing is, how many WMs is this guy going to main event in a row? It's a bit asinine that a guy that isn't even over at all would main event 4 straight WMs. Not even Hogan did that during the initial WM era, though he did main event 5-8. I won't count 9 since Hogan was not advertised in the main event. Austin at his peak didn't main event 4 WMs, just 14 and 15, then 17 (injury cost him 16). Cena at his most overpushed didn't even main event 4 WMs in a row, maybe just 22 and 23. Frankly I wouldn't even main event this Lesnar/Reigns crap. I'd put it on 3rd from last, have Reigns beat him in 6 minutes, and main event AJ vs. Nakamura.

It has to do with his images of masculinity and being super-threatened about that not being a big deal in culture anymore.
Wrestling is a bunch of actors that (for various reasons) need to pretend they're Real Tough Men. Vince grew up in that, and he has this very rigid idea of what that is, and it's desperately important to him. In the 80s, bodybuilder glam-metal types happened to fit the action movie mold. That kind of wrestler worked for a long time.
Meanwhile, Vince got old. So, he thinks HIS idea of what men should be really IS still prevalent in culture, because that's easier than actually keeping up with the times. So these fans that won't accept a perfect specimen like Reigns must just be broken weirdos; it makes no sense that they actually prefer a different type of person or have different ideas about what a man "should be." He thinks NORMAL people, the mainstream audience, still want Real American Lex Luger.

I'm pretty sure the first couple of years of Cena's push correlated to an increase in ratings and attendance. Not a huge increase but a slight bump. Roman hasn't moved the needle at all.
