Three reasons that James Franco was possibly snubbed: 1. Recent allegations. Just allegations yes, but the academy probably don’t want that distraction after the year Hollywood had. And this isn't the first time, Franco's been in the spotlight for what could get him on a sex offender list. A couple years ago he had that whole Instagram fiasco, where he tried to hook up with a 17 year old.

Fun fact:
Christopher Nolan was been nominated in the Best Director category... for the first time!
While Dunkirk is the second Nolan film to be nominated for best picture. The first being Inception.

Totally disagree about Get Out being overrated. It was my top film last year and I think one of the most important creative films ever made tbh.

The event organisers didn’t want Franco bringing Tommy on stage like at the Golden Globes.3. The academy are still pissed at his baked out performance the time he hosted the event. And here's Tommy's reaction to the news.

in the disaster artist thread on here, someone made a comment that its funny how tommy wiseau will be at the oscars, and not harvey weinstein.
BUT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE NEITHER OF THEM ARE GOING TO BE THERE.

A John Cena film is nominated for an Oscar. Not a sentence I expected to read in my lifetime.

A pretty decent list of nominees, a lot of different genres getting some form of recognition. The Oscars will never match everyone's opinion, and there's always debates about what deserves or doesn't deserve to be there. That said, I think the variety is a great sign for the future.

Not a sentence I expected to read in my lifetime. Cena and Batista both have movies nominated for Oscars this year... that's pretty nuts Batista is already in an Oscar winning film,Spectre won Best Original Song 2 years ago.Unless Blade Runner 2049 goes 0 for 6 then Batista will be part of his 2nd Oscar winning movie.

He has a chance with Guardians 2 as well. Both Blade Runner and Guardians 2 are nominated for Visual Effects.

Not surprising to see Gary Oldman getting his second nomination (seriously, how is this only his second?) considering he’s been odds-on favourite for the award for the past four months. Three Brits up for Best Actor makes me happy too. The only person I REALLY want to win an Oscar is Roger Deakins. He’s been nominated for Cinematography thirteen times before this year and has never won it. Hopefully, it’ll be fourteenth time lucky for Blade Runner 2049.

If there’s anyone I want to see win an Oscar it’s Guillermo del Toro.

I saw that due to the Times Up campaign, and the #metoo trend, Casey Affleck will NOT be at the oscars this year to present the best actress award

Am I the only one baffled by the massive love Get Out has gotten? When I saw it I thought it was a nice little B horror/semi satire flick. Maybe a cult item in future years. But 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and multiple Oscar nominations for that movie? Agree It's an OK movie but not great

I watched Get Out tonight. I thought it was a great B movie and a good movie in general. It deserves a large audience. I can't rate it above Dunkirk or, more importantly, Darkest Hour.
