Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Dafne Keene were robbed of acting nominations. I don't care if Logan was based on comic books, those were three of the most incredible performances I saw all year. Especially Stewart.

Am I the only one baffled by the massive love Get Out has gotten? When I saw it I thought it was a nice little B horror/semi satire flick. Maybe a cult item in future years. But 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and multiple Oscar nominations for that movie?

But 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and multiple Oscar nominations for that movie? It's a really good flick..especially for being a "horror" film, considering most American Horrors in the last 30 years do the SOS. I'd say it's two biggest strengths are directing and story. Is it fair to say it's a tad overrated as a film as a whole? Yea, I'd say so. ANYWAY...I could not care less about the oscars this year. I've made an attempt the last few years but I'll skip out on the self-fellating Hollywood extravaganza after the transparent year they've had.

But 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and multiple Oscar nominations for that movie? Yeah, as much crap as the Oscars gets for being elitist or whatever other complaints people who don’t watch a lot of movies complain about, there are always annual examples of that one movie or couple of movies that get a bone thrown their way: Get Out is that bone this year. Great movie. Lot of fun. But it’s not “best” anything. It’s simply there to give haters of the Oscars a reason to watch and something to root for. Same for Logan, which is laughable as a nom, and its reason for being there can already be seen as people suddenly feel they can legitimize and lobby for more with that movie, like the acting? It’s simply throwing people a bone.

I highly doubt it will win, but I'm overjoyed LOGAN got nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. I absolutely adore that movie.

Hoping The Shape of Water wins some of the bigger (Director, etc.) Oscars it’s nominated for and not just the smaller technical ones. It’s my top movie of the year.

and christopher plummer isn't good enough to be there, and ONLY there because they wouldn't change it! the ONE LINE i've seen in in ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD is when asking about the money, it's totally different from that original guy, it almost in that one word changes the entire tone of the movie ..... and sounds totally out of place for me! Wait, are you saying Plummer didn't deserve a nomination based on the delivery of one line in a trailer for a movie you haven't seen?

animation has always been a bit of a joke really BB and F shouldn't be anywhere NEAR oscars noms, anyone know why they were??? and COCO is THE BOOK OF LIFE, i also have my doubts about that being there too! where's MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI? LEGO BATMAN perhaps even some talking horses NO FAVOURITISM THERE but OPEN UP YOUR EYES should have been nommed for best original song and christopher plummer isn't good enough to be there, and ONLY there because they wouldn't change it! the ONE LINE i've seen in in ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD is when asking about the money, it's totally different from that original guy, it almost in that one word changes the entire tone of the movie ..... and sounds totally out of place for me! always a good load for star wars in the tech ..... always a few little surprises like margot robbie but since there's OBSESSION going about, there's actually little surprises ..... which what they SHOULD be putting foreward! I haven't seen Book Of Life yet, but from what I hear it's pretty different from Coco outside of the Day Of The Dead theming. Also, Michael Shannon should have gotten Shape's Supporting nom. He was going buck WILD in that movie.

Wasn't the biggest complain about Dunkirk that people couldn't make out the dialogue without subtitles?

I know nobody will mention it but me, but Three Billboards has to be one of the lousiest movies to ever get a Best Picture nomination.

Especially Stewart. Logan was also unique in two ways. 1. Superheroes rarely get closure in cinema, barring a Kill 'Em All like Watchmen. You don't see what they ended up as because that is unpleasant to many since we want everybody to stay in their prime. Logan was the end of both that character & also the story. There's no need for sequels & follow ups. 2. It distinctly had the rare phenomena to be superior to its comic version. Inbred hillbilly Hulks? Venom Symbiote dinosaurs? Complicated villain land partitions? Its much easier to just say Stryker, in his quest to eliminate mutantkind, essentially doomed humanity, as well.

As great as Plummer was in the context of how his role came to be, his spot should have gone to either Patrick Stewart for Logan or Armie Hammer for Call Me By Your Name.

Three reasons that James Franco was possibly snubbed:
1. Recent allegations. Just allegations yes, but the academy probably don’t want that distraction after the year Hollywood had.
2. The event organisers didn’t want Franco bringing Tommy on stage like at the Golden Globes.
3. The academy are still pissed at his baked out performance the time he hosted the event.

Saying it's the same movie is like saying Gremlins and Die hard are teh same movie... they both happen on Christmas after all.

Also it’s great to see Sam Rockwell get a nomination. One the most underrated actors going around. Not seen Three Billboards so I can’t rate his performance for that one. But I’m sure he was great.
Another thing I don’t think the academy is ever going to recognise motion capture or voice over performance in live action films. It’s a shame that Andy Serkis constantly get snubbed for his work, and Scarlet Johansson’s voice work in Her. It’s nothing new I think George Lucas wanted to get Frank Oz a nom for his work as Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back. I think the academy believe if we can’t see your real face then FRO.
