Just because he was on ESPN doesn't make the show more relevant.. Was he any good on ESPN? I say this as a big sports fan overall, no, not in my opinion. I was always waiting for the rock to show up, slap him and for me to cringe and change the channel.

It's never seemed like a wise move on ESPN's part and thats kinda their M.O for the most part nowadays, save for a few shows.

I will say on commentary he was legit great with Al Snow on Sunday Night Heat back in 2003. Commentary is all about who you gel with, and he and Al's personalities and sensibilities meshed perfectly.
If you want to hear good coach, revisit the Raw after Unforgiven 2003 when he and Snow did an episode.
But that's largely because he and Snow found their groove together from the jump. Wedging him into already existing pairs/arrangements seldom works with anyone and does not work with Coach.
I'll give him a few weeks though. Maybe this is a temporary thing. Is he for sure done with ESPN?

Just because he was on ESPN doesn't make the show more relevant.. Was he any good on ESPN? He was tolerable, although everyone comes off as a star when Will Cain is also employed there.

Tonight was heaven compared to the last several months with Booker. I thought he had some good points and questions but obviously some rust. Of course I can already picture Vince on his ass once he got back behind the curtain since he was different.

He was atrocious tonight. Even with it being his first night back, he was unbelievably bad for somebody who used to this for a living. Even Cole was clearly frustrated at him and having to cover up for his various moments of dead air and straight up wrong statements.
I'm sure he'll get better and I want him to do well but right now, he's a bad announcer. Booker was bad as well but good lord, at least he was funny. Coach is bad AND makes the show more boring.

Unwatchable. When he came back with the news of the signing, people got all nostalgic. Really relieved to see some recognition for how unbearable he is, was, and always will be.

They were more subdued than usual, no talking over each other or arguing or any of the usual junk.

I'd give it a few weeks
He's actually a fun listen as when he guest hosted a lot of ESPN shows he did very well and one would hope he can translate some of that to the commentary table

He was a much better suck up heel character than a commentator.

Not to quote my own post, but I just was shocked at how tiny Rock was around this time compared to the asteroid size he is now.

I like the Coach. I liked him in WWE when I was a kid, I liked him on ESPN, and I liked him last night. I think he’s charismatic, doesn’t overshadow the show, doesn’t come across like a corporate shill with a pull/string of catchphrases like Cole, and points out and comments on things that enhance the show and the stories. Yeah, he was a little rusty, but I was overall happy to have him back. I can see why others don’t like him, and I respect everyone’s opinion, but to me he’s better than a lot of the other options right now. For what it’s worth, my favorite commentator currently in WWE is Vic Joseph - he just calls the action and doesn’t overshadow anything. I’d like to see him get a shot on a bigger stage.
