I don't follow competitive gaming at all. Never watched this doc. But If this is true it seems the flaws in the systems created this problem and are to blame as much. Also not to sound like a flat earther but how can i be sure any of the evidence shown here is real? He has no cite for the videos Patrick Scott Patterson has covered a lot of it and claims to have a lot of evidence supporting it. www.scholarlygamers.com/feature/2018/02/07/king-wrong-deconstructing-billy-mitchell/

I wouldn't be shocked. He wouldn't be the only "old school" arcade guy with records who turned out to be faking it.

I guess Mitchell's scores have been Benoited from history, at least for now. Remember when Stevie Richards set the DK record? I know the joke, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if Richards was good enough to try. He's a huge arcade gamer (or at least was) and owns/owned an arcade center.

Yup. Billy Mitchell's the bigger pop culture "icon", due to Pixels and Regular Show, among other things, parodying him more directly, but yeah, he always came across as very humorless.

My favorite real life villain. Love him.
One of my favorite pop culture stories of all-time was his re-breaking of the record on the day that King of Kong released. That last couple of panels of the film is such a faceplant, considering this move by Mitchell. That’s legendary heel oneupmansship.

Any excuse for me to post this jam.
I love how super passionate the singing gets in that last 30 seconds or so.

Somewhere, JG Quintel is smiling.
(for those who dont know, Billy tried suing Cartoon Network over the Bobby Garrett Ferguson character (based on Billy Mitchell) in Regular Show. The case was thrown out almost immediately).

I'm always fascinated by people who take such trivial things SO seriously. Hopefully that doesn't come across as condescending, it legit interests me to no end.

Also not to sound like a flat earther but how can i be sure any of the evidence shown here is real? He has no cite for the videos He literally cites everything in his video description. Waitwaitwait! Isn't this the plot to the movie Pixels? also, don't ask me how I know about the movie Pixels Peter Dinklage's character is based fairly heavily on this, I believe. ...I still like Pixels. Also, so why is using an emulator a horrible thing for high scores? Unless the guy actually did save state or otherwise cheat his way to a better score, I don't see how just using it should earn such vitriol. In the video they go on to explain how he clearly not only used emulators but did indeed splice his footage together. Apollo uses one of the most common tests to prove a run is faked which is to check for massive irregularities in its audio file (it fails so spectacularly bad that it's actually hilarious). He also has a level of RNG in one of his runs that is so ungodly that while not 100% proof he was cheating, it is very likely to have been achieved by use of save-stating. He also at once point gets caught faking swapping out an arcade board for some reason.

"GBF appears as a non-human creature, a giant floating head with no body from outer space, while [Mitchell] is a human being," Thompson writes in dismissing the case. "And when GBF loses his title, the character literally explodes, unlike [Mitchell]."
