One one hand New Gods is great for an adaptation.
On the other hand... it's a DC movie...
and from my understanding is A Wrinkle in Time isn't a particularly good movie.

Ummm no thanks

DuVernay is really, really good, but we know what the WB/DC track record has been thus far, and New Gods is pretty sprawling material to work with. I'm hoping for the best...and deep down hoping they just have Michael Ironside voice Darkseid again.

Either great or terrible, no in between.
Fingers crossed.

I'm unfamiliar with this director, but a New Gods movie done right would be awesome. It's got the potential to be an acid trip without any drugs required.

The only stuff she's done that anyone would know is Selma and now A Wrinkle in Time. I don't exactly get why she's in this massive demand to be honest, other than being a fairly well known black female director. A Wrinkle in Time is not supposed to be all that good (I haven't seen it yet). I have seen Selma and didn't entirely understand the massive critical acclaim it got when it was basically a Made for TV style movie that would have been made in 1995 celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Selma march. I remember Tarantino caught some grief over his whole "Selma seems more like an Emmy winning film than an Oscar film" comment, but I do kinda know what he meant.

A Wrinkle In Time isn't terrible, but good lord, it f***ing SPRINTS to it's ending, and by the time they got there, it didn't really feel like any of the characters had earned the ending they got. And Reese Witherspoon was terrible. Mindy Kaling rocked it, though.

I never got into Darkseid or the New Gods stuff, really, but I'll give it a shot.

But there are some great performances though, especially on Storm Reid's part.

I loved the New Gods film we got from Cannon back in the 80s. Sure it is titled Masters of the Universe, but it feels like a New Gods script with a few names changed.
I really need to one day finish up reading all of Jack Kirby's New Gods stuff. I know that after Kirby people have continued the story. But the non-Kirby Fourth World stuff I have read didn't work for me.

Ava DuVernay is a solid director. And unlike A Wrinkle In Time, she's going to be involved with the writing process, too. Hopefully that and WB/DC keeping studio meddling at a minimum will make this a solid film. It's certainly ambitious, at least,

They haven't even done half their main stable of heroes correctly yet and they're going to do New Gods.
Okay DC.

The New Gods has the potential to be a great epic Shakespearean space opera, and it could be done as part of the DCU without connecting itself to it, at least not right away.
But that's a real fine line between "epic space opera" and "pretentious mess".
Not familiar with the director's work, wish her luck.

Again Ava DuVarnay is not the type of director for this film.

So coming off directing a mess of a movie gets handed a DC project. Have fun with that I guess.
Honestly I've never remotely understood the appeal of the New Gods anyway.
